First up, Automation News so someone that's always on the cutting edge of automation is Jonathan Wright. You've probably been hearing about Meta and the virtual world and virtual reality and how do you automate them? Well, Jonathan Wright is the person to follow all things meta or virtual reality. So he has a really good unboxing of the Meta Quest Pro and how you can automate it using Eggplant's native support. So Eggplant natively supports the Meta Quest Pro and is the first automation platform to support all Metaverse headsets, including the Quest Go, the Rift s, the Quest Gen 1 and Gen 2. And as I mentioned, if you go to the link you go to a live stream of a unboxing of the Meta Quest Pro and how Jonathan goes about automating it, which is really so definitely a must watch. And you can check that out in the first comment down below. So a few weeks ago I mentioned how Sadie had a great post on how to automate Flutter apps. Well, I just realized he released a course on this specific topic as well that you definitely should check out and the course is Automating Tests for Flutter Apps and it's hosted on Test Automation University and has an outline of what's covered. As you can see, satier covers, what is Flutter Dot overview, local setup, types of Flutter testing, Unit testing, mocking and Unit testing. So if you're looking to get into Flutter, I think this is a must watch resource as well. So Playwright just announced the release of playwright version 1.26 and 1.27. What does it include? Let's check it out. So the main ones they call out are New Locator API inspired by testing library assertion updates I can't see. Dodds also makes an appearance. So if you use Playwright, definitely check that out and see if there's any new features that can help you with your current automation So a question I often get asked for some reason is, you know, I'm currently a tester, how do I get into management? It's something I never wanted to do, but I do get asked this question a lot, especially when the economy gets iffy, a lot of people get antsy and they try to want to find skills that are going to keep them more employed. So I found this resource on skills and strategies for new test managers if you are making that transition to a test manager role. So Lavina, who is an awesome resource in testing in general, is also a test manager and she's going to be sharing strategies needed to be successful in a test QA leadership role, drawing on her own experience from those with varying backgrounds. And she offers actual guidance for those aiming to become or just starting to work as a test manager. So this is going to go over traits to cultivate to help you being a test manager, tools and techniques and how to choose what's best for your team, giving and receiving feedback, working smarter, and a bunch of other awesome actionable advice. So if you haven't registered yet for this event and you're thinking about being a test manager, I highly recommend you do and hope to see you there. So it looks like a beta version of Selenium is out, version 4.60 and I keep seeing people posting about the feature in Selenium Manager that I think you need to know about. So this was actually posted by Manoj Kumar and he said Selenium Environment right out of the box using Selenium Manager is now available and some of the highlights of this feature is adding more support for cdp, initial implementation of Selenium Manager across the bindings, improvements to the Java HTTP 11 client and import grid, fixes observability enabling in the Docker Selenium images But the main one I've been hearing more and more about is Selenium Manager. So if you click on Selenium Manager has a nice overview of what Selenium Manager is. It's and it's basically a way to get a working environment to run Selenium out of the box. So one of the downsides I've heard from people about Selenium it's hard to get up and running because it's basically an API. And that's why a lot of people go to tools like Cypress, which is easy to get started because it's it's all there installed for you. So I think this is a trend going forward to see how you can get up and running with Selenium quicker and faster. And this is a really positive development. So if you haven't seen Selenium Manager, if you've been saying, oh, it's hard to get up and running with Selenium, here's a beta version you should definitely check out and let me know your thoughts on it. So this next announcement is how Karate 0.3 has been released and it has a special announcement around visual validation testing. So the biggest feature in the karate 0.30 is the built in visual validation and when you go to the announcement within GitHub and this was created to help solve issues encountered using existing or external screenshot comparison services and it goes over some of those difficulties such as difficulty sharing a single set of baseline images across feature branches, hosting services unlimited for remote developers, and talks about some limitations and the solution. It allows you to run screenshot comparisons in real time. It defines comparison settings in line with the test, where the screenshots are taken, it has a review comparison results and modification screenshot settings directly within the Karate report, and it also has check in baseline screenshots and all comparison configs within the test. So if you're using Karate, if you're not using Karate, definitely check it out and let me know your thoughts about it in the comments down below. So when I was a full time automation engineer, one of the projects I worked on was with a C Sharp project and so we use this awesome plugin called resharper that helped write better automation code within C Sharp. It was created by Jetbrains so I was really happy to see this next announcement that they actually released a new version of an IDE created specifically for automation testing. So this is posted. So I found out about this on LinkedIn from Naim who said the ID is made for test engineers and it supports Selenium and API testing in Java, JS, Catalan, Python TypeScript languages support and has a web inspector built in for creating XPath and CSS selectors. And according to Jetbrains, drawing on lessons from over 20 years in the ID development, they now have a journey to create tools for test automation engineers. This will help boost your productivity by developing Automated tests with JetBrains Aqua and JetBrains Aqua provides powerful tools for test automation engineers along with a combination of language specific support as well. So what kind of tests can it help you with? Well it can help you with UI test, Web API tests, unit test, really cool development. If you're doing anything with automation, I highly recommend you try this out because I think it's really going to help you be more productive with the test automation programming efforts. Next up, Performance and Site Reliability News so I didn't find many articles for some reason around performance or security testing, but I did find this article on DevOps and how SRE is even more important nowadays with the cloud team or as we go cloud native. So this article goes over some of the strategies they use to implement a team to better serve their cloud based implementation and this article goes over what are some of the key team members, what they found worked, what they found didn't work and they talk about in addition to software engineers, another pivotal player in the cloud based transformation is having site reliability engineers whose combined roles for development and operations really help in this type of environment. And it talks about how they'll be more hands on in operational role if stuff fails. But also they also have the responsibility of trying to make sure that that particular failure they can automate it so that in the future they don't have to be hands on with it. Really, really important because the internal services that platform teams build, that top of the public cloud, those things have to be highly available and if failure occurs, developers can't work and customers could suffer. And that's why site reliability engineering is so important to make sure that the downtime is minimized as much as possible and that you have a team in place to try to make sure these type of things don't happen in the future in production. Next up, Security Testing news so a really well known tool within the automation community, especially for security testing, is zap. So this article goes over an update to the open source Zap tool that improves DaaS performance. So if you know what ZAP is, it's an OWASP ZAP attack proxy which is an open source dynamic application security testing tool. Open source dynamic application security tool and today they made available some improvements that help with performance by employing a multi thread passive scanner engine. And Simon, who is the founder and chief maintainer of Zap, said the latest update will make it simpler for developers to discover vulnerabilities in their code faster. One of the reasons developers don't frequently scan the code for vulnerabilities is because their scans are perceived to be slow. And so the longer a developer waits for scanning their code, the longer it will take to complete the scan. And so that's why they added this improvement to speed up this process. And for links of everything we covered in this news episode, head over to the links in the first comment down below. And while they make sure to check out our sponsor applitools free account offer and discover how to take your animation testing to the next level. So Leveraging Visual AI so that's it for this episode of the Test Guild News Show. I'm Joe. My mission is to help you succeed at creating end to end full stack pipeline automation awesomeness. As always, test everything and keep the good. Cheers.
