Awesome. Welcome everyone. So why don't we just go around the room again and just maybe give a small tease of what your session is going to be about and to try to get people to really want to learn more and register for this event.
One of the things that I'm really excited about is to be hosting the famous Whopper the Workshop on Performance and Reliability and also organizing the first edition of the Quality Sense Conference which will be a hybrid event. You will be able to enjoy an in person event in Montevideo, Uruguay with tons of networking opportunities. Or if you cannot make it to Montevideo, you can also enjoy the amazing talks that we will have in the conference online. You just need to register in qualitysenseconf.com for free. Thanks to our awesome sponsors and partners that support our crazy ideas of bringing a bunch of great and diverse speakers from all over the world to spend time and share their knowledge here in this location. We will cover different topics in the conference with a total of 14 sessions including keynotes, talks and panels. You will learn about performance, automation, observability, chaos engineering, holistic testing, testing in T bops, leadership and much more. You will have the chance to meet and learn from great speakers. I know you know some of them. Mark Tomlinson, Almudena Vivanco, Eric Progler, Rocher Abelenda, Claudia Abdel, Leandro Melendez, Paul Holland, Lucille Avanha and many, many more. I feel very proud to lead this event given all that it means the possibility of opening access to knowledge related to software testing, the possibility to meet great leaders from around the world and to continue positioning Uruguay and Latin America, showing the great talent we have over here Lately last four years I've been working at Retailer online retailer that it's called Lidl, that it's based in Germany Europe.
My talk is going to be about how we deal with campaigns like Christmas campaign or Black Friday, how we have been implementing chaos testing in our infrastructure once we moved on microservices to.
On December 9th I will participate in the Performance Testing panel of the quality send conf 2022 and I thank Abstracta for the invitation. In this panel I want to share the evolution of the practices and test stack of the performance testing by the lab. I also want to share our experience testing directly in the production environment and making a performance testing infrastructure solution available to developers. Finally, I intend to get feedback from my colleagues on the problems we face every day and reinforce our work approach. I have been working with projects and teams of different nature and from many places and countries. This situation has allowed me to know many contexts and understand the importance of role of each person in the software testing area in the improvement of a company that develops software or use it for its growth. My speech will allow us to know the effect and challenge that come with digital transformation for all the people involved in the software process. I'm talking about security needs, functionality or non functionality risks, the companies and the users needs and exponential and technological growth and the huge impact and the importance of the testing software in these matters. See you soon in the quality sense. Come My talk is about observability and test automation. Observability and testing have had a long history mostly with observability guiding testing, but there's opportunities for testing particular test automation to help improve observability. So my talk will be around that and giving a demo of.
How to actually an approach to doing that.
The observing market has changed quite significantly over the last years. A couple of years back everyone had vendor agents to be able to instrument and collect metrics and agents and logs from our code and from our environments. Now a couple of years back, vendors and end user are collaborating to create a standard, a standard way of creating metrics, creating logs, creating traces without adding any vendor libraries in our code, which is great and fantastic. So my presentation will walk through this standard which is called opentelemetry, explain the various components involved and things that you should probably consider when you start utilizing OpenTelemetry.
First of all, I have to say that I'm really excited to participate in a panel on the first quality Science conf we'll be debating about automation from good practices to the skills an automator should have from this panel, I would like to exchange experiences about automation strategies and how different teams resolve the difficulties we can face daily when we automate different types of tests. I believe that from sharing we get to know other realities and how other teams do things which allow us to build better solutions in the community.
In my session at quality sense conference 2022, I will be talking about modern performance and the changes that it has gone through over all these years because.
The performance testing world is not like.
You knew it a decade ago.
At Quality Sense Conf, I will be participating in a panel where we'll be discussing a little bit how to show the value behind testing. Some of the challenges we sometimes face when working with companies is that the person that we work with most directly is aware of the activities we're doing and the value we're showing. But upper management or decision makers don't always have this visibility. So we want to discuss a little bit how to provide that visibility, how we make sure leadership can be more confident that the testing activities that are being carried out by their teams are meeting their goals, that everything that needs to be covered is being covered. So we hope to see you there. In this first edition of the Quality Sense Conference, I will talk about what I call testing 3.0. In this talk, I will review how the testing and quality activities have evolved in the last 30 years. I will explore how current industry trends like DevOps and SRE have impacted on quality and testing activities, generating new opportunities for testers and people working on it in general. Recent studies have demonstrated that in order to get valuable software faster without sacrificing stability of the system, you need to pay much more attention to quality. In my opinion, this is a great moment for testers to take a key role in the software delivery side.
At the Quality Sense Conference in Uruguay, I'm going to be giving a talk on performance testing metrics and measures, which is where people who do load testing, performance testing transition from hey, we should do load testing into how do we actually do the black magic part of cpu, disk and memory and app threads and pools and containers and elasticity and scaling up and scaling down. It's sort of taking you into the intermediate or even advanced understandings of how computer systems work and how to measure and translate those measurements into the pass and fail understanding or the greater context of understanding whether you're actually on whether a performance test passes or fails or meets the criteria that you put forward for yourself.
It is a rapid fire 57 minutes of performance madness that you'll definitely want to take notes or record this conversation for sure.
I will be presenting through a demo, a new way of scripting performance tests with JMETER that will make scripting faster scripts easier to maintain and integrate in CI CD pipelines, also fostering collaboration between devs and performance experts. I will briefly introduce you to the main benefits and nuances of Shameter scripting. Do a demo using Shameter DSL showing the main features and then take some time for Q and A.
All right, speakers, before we go, is there one piece of actual advice you want to share with the guild or a key takeaway that they could put into place right away to help them with their performance efforts or a reason why they definitely need to check you at the Quality Sense Conference taking place at this December 9th, I feel very.
Proud to lead this event given all that it means the possibility of opening access to knowledge related to software testing, the possibility to meet great leaders from around the world and to continue positioning Uruguay and Latin America, showing the great talent we have over here. That's something that you can take away from my talk is that.
You need to know that you're going to fail and just be ready to fail. Because from failure we can achieve great things and if you are always ready, you are prepared to fail. You know how to get out of it and work along with the things that you have. Equality Sense Comp Start as a podcast and it's a huge conference now. There will be many speakers from many countries sharing their knowledge and experience in one place. Now the one piece of advice I would give is to always question your assumptions and verify them as you become an expert in something. That means you come with a lot of assumptions. Often those assumptions will lead you the correct path, but they can also mask problems concerns that need to be checked. So always spend a little extra time and make sure that your assumptions are right and that you're not missing something because you assumed that your answer was correct.
The success of an open source project or an open source standard is the adoption and it's very important that our market and and our users adopt open telemetry because there's lots of value for everyone. So I think that's the main idea here is to help our community getting started understand the concept of how to instrument and how to build metrics and all other type of signals with open telemetry. So I think people think that it's harder than it is. So if they want to learn more, of course I will explain everything during my presentations. But there are also lots of great content out there on OpenTelemetry IO or if you check on my YouTube channel, is it observable? There is plenty of Getting started guide on how to instrument and presenting various components involved in OpenTelemetry to join us.
On the first Quality Sense conf on December 9th. We'll be having awesome speakers so register now for free on qualitysenseconf.com thank you.
In my session you will learn about.
All the changes that your performance testing.
Practices need to go in order to be successful in these modern days where we have agile continuous methodologies, cloud services, microservices and all of that crazy stuff.
I don't know if I have a specific takeaway, but a topic that I would like to bring in for conversation within the panel is how we involve these decision makers in this conversation. We need to understand what they're looking to get out of these activities, what are their high level goals, what are they trying to achieve as leaders.
So we can build something that makes sense for them. I do not think that there is one size fits all solution in terms of how we provide visibility. So yeah, I guess a piece of advice would be start these conversations, ask the other person.
Make their needs known to you. So yeah, thank you. I think these are interesting times for our industry. There are many opportunities out there, so don't fall asleep.
Learn and be ready. Well, I would be silly if I didn't tell you to go to the Perfbytes YouTube channel and you'll find people like Leandro Melendez, who's a senior performo who works for Case 6 Grafana also has his own YouTube channel and does amazing things and the recent content that he's posted from different conferences and interviews is just overwhelmingly good. I have my own sort of tips and tricks. The perf bits that comes out every now and then on the YouTube channel. We also have the Perfbytes podcasts, News of the Damned and the main Perfbites Espanol podcast. You could listen to that on Spreaker. And then of course we have books and publishing. So Leandro and James have published different books in the Perfbbytes Press. So you want to check out the different actual book offerings that we have. You can buy those for Kindle and different things like so check you find out everything on the perfbytes.com website and follow us there. But that's kind of where we're generating new content and doing new amazing things for me myself also I do have sort of private office hours on Fridays if you want to reach out to me in one of the LinkedIn or one of the different ways that you can contact me. Let me know if you're interested and want to do a 30 minute office hours open anything so it's great.
Well I will encourage you to take a look at Shamemeter DSL guide, give us start on GitHub repository, help us spread the word and collaborate with the JMeter DSL development to ease the performance testing for entire community and hope to see you all at the QS Quality Sense Conference and share some ideas and experiences as to keep improving the test Community toolbox.
