At the YouTube space in London | A conversation and a fight

This is a short YouTube video/transcript featuring Hadar Shemesh meeting Master Wong at the YouTube Space in London. They practice basic self-defense moves (chin drop for throat grab, grip-breaking twist, elbow-over-wrist control) while Hadar gives on-the-spot pronunciation coaching (consonant clusters, the word “movement”, and V sounds). The interaction emphasizes practicing by doing, building muscle memory for both physical moves and speech, and the message that imperfect English should not prevent people from creating content.
Chapters
Last month I was invited to the YouTube space in London to learn and meet fellow YouTubers. And right there between the cafe and the control room, I came across Master Wang, a martial artist with a successful YouTube channel. I asked him if he could teach me a few self defense moves.
So basically I was teaching. What's your name again?
Hadar.
See, this is difficult for me to. Hadar, Hadar, Hadar. We're gonna teach her some basic exercise, some basic moves that are central for women. Self defense. And in between she will try to correcting my English because you know, correcting.
Correcting with the er.
Okay, correcting my English. First thing I want to teach her is somebody I come along and try to grab on the throat like this. So the most important, drop your chin. Okay. Second thing you want to do, I show you this angle. You can see hand to the head.
Cool.
Like this, arm in line. I made a twist this way. Turn. That's for breaking the grip.
Let's do it like you're surprising me.
Okay, so I'm grab, turn the head, turn. I think the basic thing of learning the language, it is quite difficult to say certain words because I'm Vietnamese. I got a Vietnamese accent, don't I? Did you think I got Vietnamese accent? The Chinese accent?
Yes.
Which one?
I think it relates more to the Chinese. Like I think the main struggle is to put many consonants together.
Yeah, yeah.
For example, a word like texts.
Texts. Text. I just say text.
Right, right. Or like subscribe. Right, we talked about it.
I say subscribe.
So in Chinese there is no consonant clusters, like when there is one consonant after another. So this is why it's difficult to do that in English.
All right. So this is the basic thing. Like I say all the time on my channel, it doesn't matter because sometimes I say wrong, but I learn, you see, like same thing, like learning English. Don't worry about say the wrong word because people laugh at you. People laugh at you anyway. So do you know what I mean? So just make the most of it and say what you think and then willing to learn. Like me, I'm the master of master. But I'm not English. I'm not master of English. I don't teach English, you know what I mean? I use my fists and then come very basic and simple.
And I want to say one thing about my experience with you and like watching your videos and everything. So I think Wong here is the best example of someone who is not holding himself back because his English is not perfect. Okay? He knows that it's not Perfect.
That's what you learn.
Sometimes it's not clear. You learn and you still say what.
You have to say.
It's about the passion.
It's about.
It's more important what you have to say. It doesn't matter how it sounds. Now, you can improve. You can work on things as you see. It's a constant progress. It's a constant journey. But the most important thing is not to let fear hold you back and keep quiet. Okay.
Because that's very true.
And this is why you have a million subscribers.
Yeah. Because if you think about a lot of time, my English is not very good, but I just don't do it, you know? And sometime if I learn as I go to make my English improve better, I. And one could communicate like this. You know, communicate like this. So I can. I pick it up, what you say. So I go home and I use that word. Helping me.
Right. It's a constant process.
Yeah.
And you constantly learn.
Now, second movement. I want to show.
Wait. Movement.
Movement.
So you're missing the V. Yes.
Movement.
Movement.
Move. Movement.
Exactly.
Movement.
Movement.
Okay. Movement. Because sometimes I speak so quickly, it's difficult to make the word more clearly. But hopefully she can help me and I can help her.
So my tip for you today would be to just take that one word, movement. Because you use it a lot.
Yeah. Movement.
And remember that just like with. It's about muscle memory.
Right.
Just with movement, I don't want to think about, wait, when someone grabs me now I need to put my hand on my shoulder and.
Yeah. Too many movements.
I knew. Do it enough times to make it a part of me.
Okay.
So the same thing with the sounds. Think about it. You don't need to think about the.
V all the time.
You need to practice it enough time, enough times to develop muscle memory, and.
Then that will be.
And then especially since you use this word all the time, and then every time now you use the word movement. Keep that in mind. And I bet perfect. Right? And then other words with consonant clusters will be easier because you've already mastered one little thing.
So she will find difficult to release the arm. Okay. Now, because she's a woman and her arm is very thin. See, my hand is reaching and grab tight. And you try to pull out. Won't able to pull them out. Very difficult.
It's painful.
And it's painful.
It's tiring.
So the basic exercise. The basic exercise is put the hand to your shoulder, bring the elbow over my wrist and force it down.
Wait, bring the elbow, like.
Okay, try One more? Yeah. Boom. One thing I'd like to say about you, though, you're not really English people. Where you from?
I'm from Israel.
See, she from Israel and she can speak perfect English. Then the English people. I don't understand it. Some English people can't but speak clearly like you. I mean, I don't. I don't get it. I can't understand the English people, but I understand you more. What's going on here?
I think it's. Again, if this is your passion, and this is my passion, I'm a geek of sounds and I'm obsessed with sounds and pronunciation. And I think this is what. This is why I'm good at what you're doing.
I think that's perfect example. So if you out there want to do something on YouTube, like what she do on YouTube, like what I'm doing in YouTube, just do it, okay? One word for me. Just do it.
Just do it. And don't hold yourself back because you're English. Not.
That's right.
It's gonna get better as long as you put yourself out there.
And the thing about willing to learn, okay? Willing to learn, okay? That's all there is. If you're willing to learn, okay? And then accept that you not know it all. And then, and then, and then that way it's easier for you to get more because you open your heart, okay? And that way people can see that they can teach you. Because if I'm close myself up and I don't listen to what she gonna tell me, I won't able to learn. Now, today is a good lesson. I learned something new today, okay? And that's perfect because you don't get this opportunity every day to meet someone and they teach you something. You can learn and improve yourself. Don't you think?
Absolutely.
So cool. So zone out and see you next video.
Next video. Thank you so much for coming. And don't forget to subscribe. Master Wong, check you out. And to my channel as well. Bye.
