A YouTube interview (Hadar Shemesh, uploaded Sept 1, 2023) with student Zoraida about her immigrant journey from Nicaragua to the U.S. She moved at age 15 (around 1988–1989), crossed through Mexico and entered near Brownsville, Texas, then traveled to Miami where Spanish communities eased initial settlement. In U.S. high school she faced bullying for not speaking English and developed limiting beliefs that harmed confidence. Years later she joined Hadar’s New Sound program, which she credits with changing her mindset and English confidence. Today she works as a CNA (night shifts) and drives for Uber/Amazon deliveries, has three sons, engages more confidently with English speakers, and plans to return to school.
