A YouTube conversation (hosted by Hallie Bulkin) exploring early palate expansion in children, focusing on whether intervening early to expand palates can improve airway health. The clip presents a dialogue between Hallie Bulkin and a pediatric dentist about benefits, timing, and considerations of early intervention.
I'd love to hear like your perspective as a pediatric dentist on intervening early and expanding these palates to open the airway.
Absolutely.
Luckily we.
Are very fortunate to have somebody in the area that does do early expansion. And I'm not talking about six years old, seven years old. I'm talking, I've even done as early as three or four. And it just depends obviously on the child's ability to tolerate it. It is surprising how many people I talk to in the orthodontic field that do not believe in early expansion unless they have a cross bite. They have to have the cross bite. It is interesting but you'll look at their palate and you can barely fit your pinky finger up there, you know. And that's the thing. I realize it could be something that's over diagnosed and just isn't taught but in, in several cases the anatomy simply speaks for itself. So I'm always trying to get people to, to get this done as long as the child would be able to be compliant.
