Hallie Bulkin explains why modern children's jaws are shrinking and teeth growing crooked. We evolved to chew tough foods and breathe outdoor air, but soft processed foods, weak jaw muscles, and airtight homes prevent proper jaw bone growth. Weak muscles mean weak bones, which means crowded teeth and bigger problems down the line.

But our environment is different. And as you see with what you do as well, our bodies are really mal-adapting to our current environment. So we have Stone Age genes living in a modern society, and it's just the body's way of trying to survive and trying to get through because we're not exercising our jaws, eating the foods that we should be eating the way that we should be eating them. There's chemicals in our air, chemicals in our food, chemicals in our home. Our houses are being sealed more and more and more to be more airtight, so less airflow. Less, you know, healthy breathing. There's so many contributing factors. And when those muscles aren't working properly, the bone suffers. As we know in medicine, the bone submits to muscle. And if those muscles are weak, the bones are weak. They're not going to grow to their full potential.
