Golder Ranch Fire District and Northwest Fire District are training firefighters on Handtevy, a pediatric emergency assessment tool. The standardized approach helps firefighters treat sick and injured children more confidently and reduces the stress of seeing their own kids in patients.

At 10 local firefighters are working to treat younger patients more efficiently. Boulder Ranch Fire District and Northwest Fire District are instituting a new assessment tool to treat pediatric patients. It is known as Hand Heavy Pediatric Emergency Standards.
A lot of us have young children at home and we can see our kids in those people and those patients when we go on these calls. So it helps us to give them a tool that they could use so that it alleviates some of that stress on scene when they're treating some of these most critical patients.
This tool will help them assess the situation before they even get on scene. Firefighters will train throughout April and May.
