Peter Antevy explains PPE for Victory sprayer operators. Ponchos are being phased out. You need gloves, a half mask with cartridges, and eye protection, though the product has no inhalation hazards and PPE is recommended mainly because the spray breaks into fine particles.
Questions this video answers
Medical examination gloves.
Use an SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus).
I'm now going to talk about the ppe. We do have some slight changes. We're going to be moving away from the ponchos and we've streamlined the ppe, but still allowing good personal protection for you. One main thing that I want to stress is that we always have gloves. Anytime we're operating around any sort of chemical, we want to have gloves and medical examination gloves will work fine. We're also going to be able to use our half mask. You'll note that I have a different style filter on here, but you're going to be using your issued cartridges that you have.
Lastly, you need some sort of eye protection. You can either use the goggles, issued goggles that you have, or another clear set of eye protection. The PPE we've streamlined is still safe with the product that you're using. The product that you're using has no inhalation hazards. However, we are breaking it down to a smaller fine particle and we want to make sure that we are covering you with at the fullest extent. This product that we have actually does not even require us to wear ppe, but we still want to make sure that we are protecting you and others within the station. If you're unable to access your half mask for that event, you can switch and use an scba. It'll be a little bit more cumbersome, but however, it will still offer that full facial and respiratory protection that's needed.
