You wanna know how many real friends you've got? Start a business. Drop a song. Try to sell your art. Then just watch. Watch who reposts. Watch who ignores it. Watch who suddenly goes quiet. Most people love the idea of you right up until it makes them uncomfortable. They'll hype strangers before they'll support the person they actually know. And some aren't watching to support you. They're watching to see if you fail. And when it's all said and done, you'll see how few are left.
That is so true. Your circle gets really small the more successful you get, but that's okay. That's how you see who your real friends are. And a lot of people, they support you when you have ideas or when you're at the bottom and you tell them, oh, I'm gonna go do this thing, or I'm gonna start this business or create this song, just like she was saying. But then when you actually become successful, they don't support you. They don't cheer you on because they see in themselves what they're never going to be able to accomplish. And because they feel that insecurity, they stop supporting you. They start talking bad about you, and you really see who is friend and who is not your friend. And if any of you know me, my circle is super tight because I was able to see who my real friends were who continued to support me as I grew.
