Short advice segment from Hannah Keeley responding to Jo (Westminster, Colorado) whose oven won't heat above 250°F. The host recommends using a slow cooker as a substitute for oven cooking (including a posted slow-cooker lasagna recipe), adapting family oven recipes for slow-cooker use, and saving money to repair the oven.

Okay, this week's question comes from Jo in Westminster, Colorado. And this mom has got some problems because her oven doesn't go over 250 degrees. Basically, it's not working. So she's really hard up with some dinner ideas that she can make not in her oven. And Jo, you mentioned in your letter that you have a slow cooker. Girl, make good use of that slow cooker. Use it every night if you need to because you said that you are sick of the burgers and hot dogs and pasta. Yeah, I'd be sick of it too. Everything you would normally make in your oven, you can certainly adapt and make it in your slow cooker. This week I posted a recipe for slow cooker lasagna. Try that out. I think you will definitely like it. Also, just take some of those family favorites that you would normally make in your oven, stick them in a slow cooker in the morning, just let it cook all day long and you'll probably be very surprised at how good it turns out. So in the meantime, pinch those pennies and try to save up enough to get that oven fixed. I hope this helps. Thanks for writing in.
