The UKBA, or UK Bonsai Association, is the organisation run by Ming and Mark Moreland, better known for what has become the most popular show in the UK each year, the Heathrow Bonsai Show. This brings up to 40 regional clubs together in a huge hall near Heathrow Airport. The UKBA has now started putting on workshops featuring bonsai artists such as Peter Warren and Will Bradley. On Saturday, 18th of January 2020, I had the pleasure of leading a workshop myself, assisted by Sean Stolp. The objective of the UKBA is to make workshop spaces available to enthusiasts of all levels with all levels of tree and allow them to access the help of leading UK bonsai artists. As the leading artist, we will always try and style or carve a tree for each attendee On the day, but we also aim to give everyone plenty of new ideas and techniques that they can then go home and implement on their other trees at home.
It's so different, isn't it, now you've done that?
That's the one you— it was very clumpy, wasn't it, when you did the wire wrap? Yeah, this is the problem with them. They almost go too well, and you've got to be strict and just make them nice and flat. So far, each workshop has been well attended and a great success. Look out for more dates in the coming months.
