Conflicted About Money Beliefs? Change Your Mindset & Get Rich — T. Harv Eker

T. Harv Eker answers a question about internal conflict over money — wanting wealth but holding beliefs that money or rich people are "evil" or that success will alienate loved ones. He prescribes a three-step remedy: (1) Awareness—notice the conflicting belief, (2) Understanding—trace its origin and examine its truth, and (3) Reconditioning—practice catching and replacing the old belief (including using the HUNA injunction "Bless that which you want"). The talk reframes money as morally neutral and emphasizes personal responsibility for how one uses wealth.

What advice you have for unsolving internal conflict? For example, wanting to be rich but believing that money is evil. Or wanting to be highly successful, believing that that will result in losing those around you from being with you. So again, we keep on talking about the same thing, don't we? We keep on talking about the same thing. And you know what? He'll go, harv, you're always talking about the mind. Yeah, Yeah, I guess so. Why? Because it's your only problem. Everything is neutral until you get there. X is going on in your life. X is going on. Well, it's just X. That's. That's what is. It's. X is. X is what is. That's all that's happening. And then you go in and give X its meaning. You make judgments and determine what X is. X is bad. X is hard. X is right. X is wrong. X is good. X is ugly. X is pretty. X is nice. X is not nice. X is hard. X is easy. X is freaking X. That's all it is. X is nothing. And then you get. Then you go, why is X like this? Why is X like this? Because you made it like this. That's why it is. We have the beliefs and their eternal conflicts, right? So in this case for Devin, he's saying wanting to be rich and then believing that rich is evil. Okay? Or wanting to be successful, believing that's going to result in losing those around us. So, number one, stop believing your own mind. When it's going against what you want, when it's going against where you're going, when it's taking you out of your happiness, when it's taking you out of success, stop believing it. It's just doing its job. Just the bodyguard, just to protect the mechanism. You will get what it always does. Okay? So change. Change happens. Several steps to change. Number one, write it down. First step to all, change. Awareness. Thank you. So you have to recognize what's going on. And you already have that. Devin, you said internal conflicts. Want to be rich and believing that money is evil, that's awareness that you have a belief that money is evil. Wanting to be successful, believing that will result in losing the people around me. That's awareness. Good, you've already got that. Great. So first thing is identify what is the issue here? Number two, Understanding. Write it down. Understanding. Where did that way of thinking money is evil, you're going to lose everyone around you, blah, blah, blah. Where did that come from? Who did you learn that from? Name it. Was it Mom? Was it dad? Was it Uncle Fred, was it the pastor or the priest or the rabbi or the bishop or clergy in your synagogue or in your chapel or in your church? Was it them who said it? Right? Who told you that? Who ingrained it somehow? Who made you feel like that? Right? Rich is not good, rich is not bad. Rich is whatever you say it is. Rich people are not good. Rich people are not bad. Rich people are whatever you say they are. What are you gonna be if you became rich? Would you be a bad person? Right? I'm asking you if you wouldn't be a bad person, then rich is good. If you would be an asshole, rich is bad, right? Okay, so it's all about you. What reality is personal. Is it true that some rich people are bad? Yes or no, Is it true some rich people are quote unquote bad? Yeah, sure, some rich people are bad. Is it true some middle class people are quote unquote, what we're going to call bad? Some middle class people are bad? Yeah, yeah, sure. But it says. Yeah. Is it true some poor people are quote unquote bad? Yeah, yeah. Everybody says yeah. Then what the hell does this have to do with money? It has nothing to do with money. Some rich people are bad, some middle class people are bad, Some poor people are bad. They're bad. Okay? It's nothing to do with money. It has to do with you. What are you gonna do when you have money? Are you gonna hoard it? Are you gonna, are you gonna do bad things with it? Are you gonna corrupt other people? Are you gonna make do bad things? Are you gonna do good things with it? You know, personally, I choose to do good things with it. So then money's good. The idea that rich people are bad is what holds you back from being rich. Okay? It's not true or false or right or wrong. It's just your belief and it doesn't, it holds you back from being rich. There's a HUNA philosophy and I want you to write this down. It's a HUNA philosophy. HUNA is the spiritual philosophy of Hawaii and it's a great philosophy. It says this, write it down, please. Bless that which you want. Bless that which you want. In other words, instead of saying rich people are bad, rich people are evil and saying, oh yeah, that rich person, what an asshole, that Ferrari, you know, because they have money, that person, okay, bless them. If you see somebody with a beautiful car, bless the car and bless the driver. Because here's the thing, anything that you negate by saying something against it, anything you negate, you can Never have. You just. It's over for you. You're done. You say, you know, rich people are bad. Okay, great. You can never be one of them now because you believe rich people are bad, you'll never be rich. You just killed yourself. You just destroyed your happiness with one sentence, one belief. Rich people are bad. Good, great. You'll never be rich. What would you do if you were rich? What would you do with your money? You know, here's the usual. Most people at the beginning, they buy all their toys, right? All the things they wanted they thought they could do with money. Great. Then what happens? You have enough toys and you start getting rid of your toys. You said toys are a hassle, so you start getting rid of them. Then what do you do with your money? You start accumulating, one, for legacy. Two, you start to contribute to help people, right? Say, oh, what can I do with this? How can I help people? And then you start doing things for service because you can. I just came from a retreat with Ram Dass, Baba Ram Dass. He's one of the most spiritual people in all of North America. He can't, you know, I mean, it's Ram Dass. And the Ram Dass foundation has given away. Listen to this. Over a million eyeglasses. A million eyeglasses to kids and people in third world countries that couldn't see well, right? That's freaking amazing. Are they rich? No, they give all their money away. Do they bring in a lot of money? Yeah, yeah, they bring in a lot of money. We just had a retreat with almost 400 people. The tuition alone was $2,000. That's $800,000. Okay? And so they probably netted half a million bucks. But what do they do with it? They do good with it. They do good with it, okay? So there's nothing wrong with money unless you make it wrong. You understand? There's nothing wrong with rich people unless you make them wrong. And then you can either have money or you can't be rich. So once you examine, then you can see the bullshit all around it. And then it's a question of reconditioning. Number three. Reconditioning. Practicing, practicing. Whenever your mind comes up and you feel like, oh, I want to be rich, but then you hear yourself negate a rich person. You just have to catch yourself, say, oh, thank you for sharing. That's an old habit. It's not even true, right? Everything is neutral till I get there. That person is neutral. And you know what? When I. So you come back and say, when I get rich. I'm going to help a lot of people. That's all that matters here. Oh, I don't. You know, I might have a Ferrari, but I'm going to help a lot of people. So whatever it is for you. So, number one, awareness, Number two, understanding in which we reconditioning and practice. All right? Give yourself a high five and say, I'm awesome. I'm awesome. I'm awesome.
