How to Be Seen as an Expert

T. Harv Eker argues that teaching is the fastest route to wealth because teachers are presumed experts and thus attract customers; he illustrates this with a story about finding a trusted doctor via a YouTube teaching video and emphasizes that demonstrated results matter more than formal degrees. He cites his own reach and book sales as evidence of credibility.

I want all you to be a teacher. Why? Because teaching is the fastest way to wealth. Why is it the fastest way to wealth? Because when you are a teacher, you are presumed to be the what the expert. And do people. What do people want to deal with? Experts or people who don't know what they're doing? They all want to deal with an expert, right? So one of the fastest way to promote whatever you've got is to teach about something around it. Then people and your audience will go, wow, they really know what they're doing. I would like to buy what they have. That's how it works. I can't make it any simpler than that. I can't make it simpler than that. People will want to buy from you whatever you got because especially since you're talking about a problem that they have and you're the expert on it. Here's an example. I was in a meeting today about the investment meeting. The guy I was talking with just came from an mri. That's why he was know who had breakfast. He ended up having lunch, an MRI and for his knee. And he went to a doctor and I said, and the doctors, you know, he said to blah, blah, blah. I said, that sounds very reasonable. He didn't tell you to get surgery. He was right with it. He said, You're 57 years old. You got to expect certain things. Arthritis, yada yada. It's better than getting it cleaned up again. Your knees are going to be happy. It's going to get worse. Arthritis. I wouldn't go for that surgery if I were you. It yada, yada, yada. Just choose activities, yada yada. And I go, you know what? It sounds more reasonable than just going for surgery or just telling you to take medications. Yada yada. I said, I like the way that doctor sounds. Where'd you hear about him? He says, oh, I clicked. Someone told me about him. I clicked online and he had this YouTube video where he's teaching about yada, yada, yada medicine and a healing technique that he created and. Or found yada yada and. And I liked what he was teaching. I said, yeah, yeah, I want to see that video. Because I said, does he do backs? He says, I don't know. I said, well, is it pretending? He says, I don't know. So right away, I didn't even get home. I was in the car, sitting there before I even left the parking lot. I am not kidding. You far left the parking lot. I'm on my phone googling this doctor's name. Ralph Lee. And I'm looking at it. I'm looking for the YouTube video with Eddie's kid talking about it. He turns out he's a sports medicine doctor who works on everything. I listened to him teaching. He talked for three minutes about yada, yada, yada. I go, this guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Listen, everybody. Listen closely to what I'm saying right now. Most people, 99.9% of the people who have the problem you're talking about that you're going to help solve don't give a flying F about your flying F degree. Let me say this to you right now. Listen closely. Listen, everybody. I teach about money and wealth and business. Do you know how often I have been asked? I have a little over two and a half million students. You know how many of them have asked me if I have a business degree? Like in my whole life of seminars, two people have ever asked me, just in walking, deciding, I just wondering, do you have a business degree? I went, no, and I'll keep on walking. No, here's my degree. Everybody. Here's my degree. Millions of dollars. That's my degree. You want me to put my millions of dollars on the wall? They don't care about you. They care about them. They care about their problem. Can you help me? I'm in. That's all they have to do, right? Nobody gives a. Anybody ever seen this book? Anybody? Yes or no? Yeah. What's it called? Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. Who wrote it? Me. Right. Almost 4 million copies. Four million copies. Number one, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today. I have to sell 52,000 copies in the first week for it to go number one. Beat out Joel Osteen. Beat out Harry Potter. Go ahead and do that. My experience, I was broke. I thought this way. I started thinking this way, the other way. I got rich. That's how I know. Understand business. Did you get a business degree? No. Well, what gives you the right to teach? I was broke. I'm wealthy. I did it this way. You want to learn it, learn it. You don't go to some master's degree. Person. I don't give a go. Let them show you their little certificate. I'm not dissing getting a degree. Get a degree, go ahead. But what the does that have to do with solving a problem for somebody? Where in my good millionaire book does it say, get a degree to solve a problem for somebody? Okay, you're going to help somebody lose some weight because you've been able to. You're going to have somebody help themselves with cancer because you were able to. You're going to help somebody tidy up their space so they can think clearer because you were able to. You're going to help somebody do well with their investments because you were able to. Okay, whatever it is, you were able to do it. You helped them help some. You got zits on your skin. You were able to find a way to help. You're going to help some other people. If you let that stupid degree stop you, then you're dumber than the degree it.
