How You Do Things Affects How You Achieve Goals — T. Harv Eker

T. Harv Eker says the way you pursue a goal matters more than the goal itself. The difference between going for something with joy and purpose versus fighting for it with struggle and attachment reshapes everything. He recommends staying flexible, looking for signs of flow, and approaching goals with service and a smile instead of force.

First of all, let me say this right now, going and attempting to get what you want or attempting to achieve a goal or going for goal is radically different than fighting for a goal. The difference is in internally, emotionally, in attitude, right? And so when we talk about going with the flow, when we talk about not being attached, we're talking about an attitude. You could go for it from now until the next 50 years, that doesn't matter. What matters is your attitude, your frame of reference, your feeling around going for it. I don't care if you go for something for five minutes or 50 years, makes no difference. That's up to you. The most important thing is how are you going for it? Are you fighting for it? Not a good attitude for your happiness, at least, right? Bottom line is that you don't be fighting for anything. Do you want to try harder? Do you want to attempt more? Do you want to have more consistency? Do you want to put more energy, more focus? Great. That's not fighting. Put more focus on it, Put more time in, put more energy, but with a hello, a smile, with some passion, with some joy, with purpose. That's how you do it. And you're not attached to the outcome. Why? Because you're already happy. You're already feeling good in doing it, right? You're not doing it because I get this. When I get this, then I'm going to be happy. We know that doesn't work, does it? Because the minute you get it and you're happy for 10 minutes or 10 hours or 10 days after that, what happens? You go back to unhappy. Why? Because that's your mo. That's how you do it. It's like fighting for peace. You know, Gandhi was a peaceful activist. No, he didn't create anarchy and fighting and weapons. He was the ob. He was a model of what to do here. You can't be fighting for peace. We argue with somebody to win the argument. You know, there shouldn't have been an argument here. So we arg with them about should there been an argument here. I'm right. Well, that's what creates the argument. My Zen teacher, Sherry, she says it's not what you do, it's how you do it. Write that down, please. It's not what, it's how. Because what's are always changing. You can't control the what's. Some things happen, some people are laid, somebody cuts in front of you, you know, this didn't work out, that person's laid. That didn't happen. Whatever it is, you can't control that. But you can always control your own how you do things because that is only under your control. When it comes to how long you're going for something, that's up to you. As long as you're doing it with joy and purpose and passion, what's the difference how long? If that's what you want. But if you're looking at the outcome, not attached to it, but looking at it, then you know, you want to be semi reasonable, but you want to look at like I like to look at. See, I believe that everything happens for a reason. And the reason is there to serve us. So, you know, it's not like, okay, if it doesn't happen on day one, I don't go, okay, this shouldn't happen. This isn't meant to be. You got to understand that things occur that they're not necessarily occurring. Your specific timing and under your specific, you know, guidelines, and it fits in this box and it should happen right here. And this right now, there's a log rhythm, the universe, there's other stuff going on, et cetera, et cetera. Maybe it doesn't happen right away. Still fine. So how long do you continue to go for it as long as you deem it appropriate for yourself? There's a lot of friction here. There's a lot of issues. There's a lot of, you know, and you continue to bat your head against the wall, so to speak, and continue to. Some people fight, some people, you're putting energy and energy and energy and it's just not working. You know, at that point in time, it's not a failure. You just might look at it and say, so is there something I can flow with that seems to be coming my way? What seems to be coming my way versus always going to get it the warrior way. Go get it, go get it, go get it. Versus going with the flow, going down the river of life and going, oh, look at this, this is happening right for me, how you do anything is how you do what. Everything. Thank you. And if you're going to be battening your head against a wall and fighting and fighting, and with this thing, guess what? That's your mo. You're going to be fighting for everything. And you'll live as a warrior, which is a good idea, but it's freaking tiring. Key is not what, but how you're doing it and how long you go for it is totally up to you. You look for signs, but it's all about how you're doing it, practice how you're doing it. Practice coming at things. With happiness, with joy, with purpose, with peace, with service, through service. And you know what? Everything takes on a different color when you do that. Give yourself a high five and say, I'm awesome. Well done.
