T. Harv Eker: Success Is Easy

T. Harv Eker argues that success arises from doing simple, easy actions consistently over long periods rather than seeking complicated hard tasks. He gives everyday examples—eating healthy, exercising, meditating, keeping agreements, returning calls—as behaviors that are easy to do and easy not to do; sustained practice of these simple actions produces lasting change and success.

Hey, everybody. Harv Eker here. Here's an instant insight. You know, I was sitting around thinking here for a moment. You know, I do that a lot. Sit around thinking. Actually, they usually come, like in the shower or wherever it is. But we were always looking for the complicated things to do. You know, look for. It's got to be complicated. It's hard. And success is hard. And we sometimes get quite focused on making sure we do the hard things. But sometimes, isn't it true that it's the easy things that we have, that we could do that by not doing them? Things become hard, things become difficult, life becomes difficult. So the goal is to do the easy things in life. Here's an example. We all know that we should eat our vegetables, eat more greens, eat healthier. Is that a hard thing? Is that a complicated thing? No, it's a simple thing. Do it. Most people know they don't do it and they don't do it enough, so they give that up, a little bit of exercise. We know that. Do we do it for most people? No, they don't necessarily do it. Calling people back, answering emails, being in integrity, keeping your word, being on time, keeping your agreements. I'll get this to you tomorrow. Do you do it? Well, hopefully you do, but most of the times we don't. And they're not hard. They're easy. But the easy things that we don't do that make life hard. So the big insight here is that things that are easy to do are also easy not to do. So we have a tendency, as I said earlier, to make things very complicated. But you know what? Success is very simple. I'm here right now at the world's greatest marketing seminar, and one of the things I was discussing is I sat on the table on the stage and I said, listen, for Everybody here who's 30 years old and under, I have a news flash. There was once a, believe it or not, where there was no computer. People didn't have personal computers, and, you know, barely the government had them. They were as big as a house or an apartment or a whole office building. So there was a time like that. And yet people not only got things done, not only were happy, but very, very, very successful. Millionaires, multimillionaires, billionaires, without computers. So things can be done very simply. And again, it's the easy things that are easy to let go. And it's the easy things that if you do them, the simple things, if you simply do the simple things in life, you will have a much more successful life. It'll be easier, it'll be more fun, and it'll be more successful. You don't have to spend your life trying to do the complicated hard things. Why? What for? They don't give you the 80, 20 rules. It's the simple things done over long periods of time that will give you permanent and constant results. I'll say it again. The simple things done over long periods of time that will give you the best result. Let me give you another example of this meditation. Meditation. I'm not the first person that says meditate. It's been done for thousands of years. But every meditation teacher who has really been enlightened by this technique will tell you it's not a one shot deal. It's easy. Hey. Sit for 20 minutes and contemplate your navel. Okay? That's not that hard. Okay. Watch your breath. Okay, that's not. It takes some training. Hey, but it's not that hard. People will do it for a day. People will do it for a week. People get really, really fantastic and they'll do it for two weeks. That doesn't give you much results. It's a simple thing. 20 minutes a day. Done over four, five, six, ten years. That changes. Alters your beingness. Eating right. Not eating junk, for example, not eating sugar. Staying off the red meats. If at all possible, eating more greens. Okay. Done over three or four days. That's the way most people do their life. Done over three or four years will change your life. Keeping your agreements. Done over a day or two will change. Relationship with somebody. Done over a decade will change who you are. Simple things over a long period. Done ongoing basis. Will change who you are and change your life. Sam.
