T. Harv Eker argues fear is not real but a mental construct: anticipation of pain that exists only in imagination about the future. He demonstrates that future events don't actually exist, so being fully present in the current moment eliminates fear entirely.

Fear. What's the word? Fear. All right, so now if that's the case and it's based in fear, when is fear? What is the definition of fear? People say, oh, the definition of fear is false evidence appearing real. Actually, my friends, that is not a definition. That is an acronym. Okay, so what is the definition, the actual definition of fear? And you need to really remember this. Please remember this. Anticipation of pain. Repeat that with me. Anticipation of pain. Now, here's a question. When is anticipation past, present, or future? Anticipation is when future. Is future real or is future imagined? Well, here's one of the things I do in my seminars, and I'll do it right now. Say so do this with me now. Everybody ready? Okay. Got your hand ready? Raise your hand. Tomorrow. Go ahead, try that again. Raise your hand. Tomorrow. What's the problem? How come you can't do it? Because tomorrow doesn't exist in reality. It only exists in your head. Right? You can't raise it tomorrow. Tomorrow, it's not there. So the same with fear. Fear only exists in the imagination. It isn't real. So you need to understand the most important place you can be in order to be solid and confident and real is in the real place of your life, which is only this very present moment. When you are in the present, you will not listen closely. You will not be in fear. Why? Because fear is, what do we say? Anticipation of pain in the future. What does that mean, being in the present? It means putting your attention, your mind focus on what is going right now.
