Short excerpt from a YouTube talk (April 12, 2023 upload) where Dennis McKenna describes indigenous views of certain species as "plant teachers," argues plants exhibit a form of intelligence despite lacking brains, and links intelligence to highly hyper-connected networks observable at ecosystem scales.

Chapters

You know, indigenous people have this concept that these are plant teachers. These are teachers. And in my experience, that's that's been true. Whether you attribute intelligence to them in the way that we think of intelligence is not exactly clear. But there's lots of information emerging now showing that plants do have a kind of intelligence. You know, they don't have brains. So we often think you've got to have a brain to have intelligence. Actually, no, you know, we're re understanding what you have to have is highly hyper connected networks, you know, what used to be called neural networks, but these are not involving neural nervous systems, but hyper connected networks. And you see those on the ecosystem level, in many different instances, whole growth forests become.
