The good bacteria get killed off, the lining gets damaged. Yeah. Now the good bacteria are making most of your neurotransmitters, serotonin, dopamine, GABA, et cetera, are mostly produced in your gut, not in your brain. So when you're destroying the good bacteria, you destroy your neurotransmitters, which leads to mood issues, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, et cetera.
What if your body has been trying to tell you a story your mind hasn't learned how to hear? Today I sit down with naturopathic doctor and psychotherapist, Dr. Amit Agarwal, to explain why lasting healing may require looking far beyond the symptom itself. Drawing from his own experience of childhood bullying and a chronically activated nervous system, Amit explains how he came to see our physical health, emotional wounds, and family histories as deeply interconnected. We explore his 5 pillars of healing, from the gut, liver, and adrenal system to childhood and ancestral trauma. Why he believes unresolved family dynamics can keep us trapped in patterns we don't understand, and how he combines psychotherapy, including family constellations therapy, homeopathy, and functional wellness in his work. Amit also guides us through practical tools for calming the nervous system and meeting difficult emotions without resistance, inviting us to consider that healing may begin not by fighting what we feel, but by finally giving ourselves permission to feel it.
Really thrilled to be here today with Amit Agarwal. Welcome, Dr. Agarwal.
Thank you, Fleet. Uh, super excited to talk about homeopathy releasing trauma, family constellations to release ancestral trauma as well, and the whole gut-liver-adrenal approach to mental health as well.
Absolutely. That's going to be perfect for this day. Our focus is on the mind-body connection and functional medicine and so forth. So This is perfect for your work. So I'm gonna share your bio and then we'll jump right into the conversation.
With pleasure.
Amit Agarwal, ND, is a naturopathic doctor and psychotherapist who works with Gestalt, EMDR, and family constellation therapies. He was voted one of the top 43 naturopathic doctors worldwide and has empowered thousands of people around the world to improve gut health, detox their livers, and cure adrenal fatigue By combining holistic medicine, psychotherapy, homeopathy, and emotional healing. Dr. Agarwal is the author of several books, including Heal Your Body, Cure Your Mind. Through his books and online courses and holistic approach, he offers relief from burnout, anxiety, depression, chronic disease, and trauma. And of course, all those things are relatively endemic in our fast-paced world today. So such important work. So I was a little reluctant to ask you to sort of encapsulate your, your history, your origin in just a minute or two, but we have a lot to cover today, so I will ask you to do that. But I would like to start with how your journey began. What led you to becoming a physician, a healer, and, and, and the overall direction of your work?
Gosh, that's a big question. So I'm born in Kenya, and I went to boarding school where I was bullied and, um, just felt threatened by Teachers who were unkind, so my nervous system was on edge all the time, and I thought that was a weakness. But by being on edge, I developed this hypersensitivity to people's emotions and people's intentions, and even the threat. It's almost like our nervous system adapts to the environment, and suddenly I could pick up feelings in people without knowing it. Yeah, so I became an empath very quickly, and then I went to naturopathic college in Toronto as well as Gestalt psychotherapy. And that's where I learned the power of eating healthy, you know, healing our gut, which we're going to talk about, detoxifying the liver, the importance of adrenal herbs as well to calm down anxiety, and most importantly, the importance of healing trauma. Yeah, our mindset, our beliefs that program us, that run our nervous system, our subconscious, and keep us in fear, anxiety, depression, you name it. Yeah, trauma is often the root cause of most people's problems. And I've even had people with cancer resolve the cancer just by healing trauma. And we'll talk about that when we talk about family constellations therapy. And then I learned family constellations therapy, yeah, which is one of the most powerful therapies in the world to heal ancestral trauma. So this is— we inherit trauma from our mom, from our dad. If there's an affair, an abortion, miscarriage, victims of war, murders, alcoholism, suicides in the family, unknowingly, yeah, we absorb these traumas. And these are often the root cause of our problems, whether it's anxiety, sabotage with money, relationship issues, chronic diseases. I've seen chronic pain disappear in one session. Just by releasing an entanglement with mom. Yeah. So that's been my journey, really learning how to heal the gut, the liver, the adrenal system, the body, as well as releasing personal trauma, childhood trauma, adult trauma, and most importantly, ancestral trauma. And I combine this work in online courses, retreats around the world. They're super fun. They're super fun to do. Yeah, so I'm super excited to teach about all this today. So to help all of you listening how to get to the root cause of what your problem is rather than dabbling in pills to suppress the anxiety, let's get to the root cause. Let's either heal the gut, take the right herbs, right homeopathic remedies, or release that trauma that no one talks about or no one looks at.
And this really evolved out of your own experience, your own childhood experiences of being bullied, experiences with a lot of stress and anxiety. So much so that your nervous system became hypersensitive. And growing up in Africa, and Africa having gone through colonialism and all the impact of that, got to be a lot of ancestral trauma that you were working through as well.
Absolutely. Colonialism was a big one. I went to British boarding school, so of course there was a bit of bias at that time, some intimidation, and this unconscious respect for the oppressor, whether it's fear or respect, we don't know. And so my life was pretty— I grew up very timid. And then, of course, when I went to study in Canada, then I got introduced to drugs. There was a lot of drugs involved. So I destroyed my nervous system as well as my liver with alcohol, LSD, you name it. And my first homeopathic remedy was actually homeopathic LSD, which detoxed all the LSD from my system. Amazing. And so I learned how to combine the homeopathic remedies to detoxify the body, learned how to eat healthy. And we'll talk about how gut health and liver health and the adrenal health affects mental health, of course, and chronic disease. And that just touched the surface. And it's only when I went through psychotherapy school, which just blew my mind, did I realize, oh my God, my experiences as a child were affecting the way I was thinking, my beliefs, the way I interact with people, and how intimidated or fearful I felt with adults or with authority or in certain environments. Yeah, so our childhood experiences are literally programming our entire perception of reality. And the beauty of all this, Fleet, is that this perception can be shifted in a beautiful, organic way if done In the right— with the right therapy. You know, there's therapies that force you to think positively or control your feelings. I don't do those. I prefer Gestalt therapy, EMDR, somatic experiencing, family constellations therapy, because they transform the nervous system and the trauma more organically. So you naturally shift into a more empowered, healthy perspective of yourself and of your surroundings, which is very important for your organism. Very important.
So many people today find themselves feeling a lot of anxiety, whether it's— whether experiencing it primarily mental or emotional or physical anxiety or even kind of existential anxiety. There's just a lot of uncertainty and fear in the world today for just all the instability and the pace of change and everything. And people often, I think, assume that it's situational and not that there aren't circumstances that there would be reason to feel some anxiety, certainly on fear. But it's really deeper than that, much deeper than that, as you're pointing to, that it can really be, you know, and then all the chronic diseases that result from living in a state of anxiety and the systemic inflammation and so forth. So it's all the physical illnesses we're dealing with and things like chronic fatigue and and things that have been considered somewhat physical, somewhat psychosomatic kind of ill, IBS, all these kind of things. Just all the ways in which our systems are so much in breakdown and there's so much disconnection in our society altogether. And as you point out, this really, all this has roots in trauma and unresolved issues there. And then how that creates dysregulation in the body and in systemic inflammation and leads to a host of both physical And mental and emotional illnesses and challenges, right? And so I wonder if you could break down kind of how all this really impacts our mental health and then how, you know, when people come to you and they're suffering, right, they're suffering mentally, emotionally, and maybe that's also showing up in their lives as physical issues, how do you begin helping them unravel that and work back to find the root causes?
Okay, so I'm gonna walk you through your biology and your mind in a very simple way. If it gets complicated, there's free videos on my website. Yeah, let's start with the gut. We have a stomach, we have intestines. Your intestines are like a nice tube, a nice lining kept healthy by good bacteria and good food. Over time, with antibiotic use, a poor diet, birth control pill, inflammatory foods like gluten, dairy, etc. The good bacteria get killed off, the lining gets damaged. Yeah. Now the good bacteria are making most of your neurotransmitters. Serotonin, dopamine, GABA, etc., are mostly produced in your gut, not in your brain. So when you're destroying the good bacteria, you destroy your neurotransmitters, which leads to mood issues, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. Alright. Also remember now, when your gut lining gets damaged, we get holes in there. It's known as leaky gut syndrome. With leaky gut syndrome, toxins leak into the bloodstream and cause inflammation everywhere in the body. And that's the leading cause for asthma, eczema, arthritis, a lot of chronic conditions. All this inflammation then goes to the liver and everywhere else in your body, right? Including your brain, causing brain fog and negative thinking, negative thoughts. Yeah. Change in perception. We're gonna get to how trauma and ancestral trauma also affect perception. But let's stick with the biology first. All this inflammation also disrupts your neurotransmitters: serotonin, dopamine, GABA, etc. GABA is your anti-anxiety neurotransmitter, so when it goes low, we get more anxiety and insomnia. When inflammation hits your liver, your liver becomes stagnant, and your liver is also dealing with toxins every day: drugs, alcohol, pesticides, chemicals in the drinking water. So our livers get slammed by inflammation. And chronic toxicity, right? And now our livers are our master organ, the seat of the soul in many cultures, right? In Chinese medicine, it really is the master organ. And why? Because it controls digestion, detoxification, hormone balance, right? Vitamin storage, immune cell activation, everything. So when the liver is stagnant, it produces less bile. When you produce less bile, you get more gas, bloating, constipation, indigestion. And bile is very important for your good bacteria in your gut to flourish, right? So when you don't have enough bile, the good bacteria don't flourish. You get more of leaky gut and what we call dysbiosis. So unhealthy bacteria. So worsening of gut health, leaky gut, chronic inflammation, and neurotransmitters dropping. That's number one. Also, and many people with constipation, it's very important to realize many people with constipation, heartburn, It's not a laxative deficiency, Fleet. Yeah, it's a liver issue because bile is the lubricant for stool. And if your bile is not flowing, if you don't have a healthy liver, then most likely you're going to have some sort of gas, bloating, constipation. So to resolve that, rather than laxatives, I always detoxify the liver and I cover those remedies in the course, but I'll show you some today. Also, the liver being the master organ for hormones, when the liver is stagnant, we go into hormonal imbalance. For women, it's usually progesterone deficiency, estrogen excess, and that causes symptoms of PMS. So breast tenderness, cramping, clotting, mood swings, right? And when progesterone is low, GABA, the anti-anxiety neurotransmitter, doesn't work so well in the brain. Yeah. So women with PMS symptoms might experience more sadness, anxiety, insomnia, et cetera. And that's why With PMS, you have mood swings, you have the hormonal symptoms like the breast tenderness, cramping, clotting, and you have digestive issues, right? Because all— most of it is coming from the liver. So you can see how the liver affects mental health as well.
Yeah.
Now with all this chronic inflammation, what happens is chronic inflammation, the body needs to produce cortisol to reduce chronic inflammation. Who produces cortisol? Your adrenal glands and other cells in your body, of course. Now, our adrenal glands are made for fight, flight, or freeze. Yeah, they are our protective mechanism. So every day your adrenal glands are overworking from financial stress, from breakups, from marriage problems, from working every day, etc. And also our adrenal glands are stressed when— because we have trauma stored in our body from childhood. And we'll talk about trauma and how that's affecting the adrenal glands. But your adrenal glands are naturally on overdrive every day. And then the chronic inflammation from leaky gut as well as the toxicity from liver toxicity creates this demand, this demand for more cortisol. So your adrenal glands have to work extra hard now, first dealing with stress, then dealing with unhealed trauma, and then dealing with chronic inflammation. So most people then get wiped out and they go into what we call adrenal fatigue. With adrenal fatigue, then you get a cortisol imbalance. And when you have cortisol imbalance, all your neurotransmitters start dropping and your thyroid levels start dropping as well. So serotonin, dopamine, GABA, melatonin as well, yeah, the sleep hormone, that all goes plummeting down. And also the conversion of T4 to T3, so the inactive thyroid to the active thyroid, that suffers as well. So suddenly we have people with subclinical hypothyroidism as well from burnout. The combination of this fleet leads to mental health symptoms, whether it's anxiety, depression, insomnia, OCD, suicidal thoughts, low self-esteem, you name it. It leads to chronic diseases, hormonal issues, susceptibility to cancer, and the toxicity obviously shows up as psoriasis, eczema, Et cetera. Chronic inflammation as heart disease, arthritis, asthma. You can see how everything stems from the gut, the liver, the adrenal system, and stress, as well as unhealed trauma. So in my online course, I cover how to heal the gut, the liver, emotional healing exercises for trauma, then of course family constellations therapy to release ancestral trauma, which we'll go into, and homeopathic remedies, which we're going to talk about today. why they're very important also, yeah, for mental health and to release trauma.
So another endemic physical malady, especially in my own country and in the US and probably in North America in general, is weight issues and obesity. And that's certainly related to everything you're talking about as well, right?
Absolutely. So the biggest success I've seen with Weight issues is a combination of first of all removing toxicity, getting that liver moving. When the toxins are out, your metabolism picks up, and then you can burn that fat much easier. A lot of weight gain is due to water retention. So when you detoxify, you're holding on to less water as well. Naturally, you let go of all the water that's building up. Then you need to stabilize your cortisol level. Yeah, because of unhealed stress. When you're stressed, most people will binge eat. Yeah, so that hunger pang is emotional eating. And why do we emotionally eat? Because there's an emotion that's not healed. And so when you heal the trauma, yeah, so at the retreats I do, I do a lot of family constellations therapy and trauma healing. When you feel resolved inside, you don't have that craving anymore to fill that void with food. Okay. And then of course, when you are burnt out, yeah, when your adrenal glands are exhausted, your metabolism is not working so well. So you cannot burn fat very quickly. Yeah, and you, you're binging on carbs and salts, of course, to keep going. Yeah, so combination of toxicity, of burnout, of binge eating, and unhealed trauma leads people to keep the weight on and makes it difficult for people to lose the weight. And then they starve themselves, they go on strange diets, but they don't feel good inside, and then they put the weight back on again quickly. So my program really guides you to healing the pillars of health. Yeah, 5 pillars of health, very important for any disease and weight loss. Gut health, liver health, adrenal health, emotional. Yeah, the childhood traumas, et cetera. And systemic health, healing the ancestral traumas, the anger we pick up from mom against dad, or the suffering of our grandparents during the war that led to our phobia of closed chambers or of, I don't know, fear of authority. or different cultures, we absorb these traumas and we're living them unconsciously. So with family constellations therapy, we do healing sentences and people can walk out of these inherited traumas as well.
And as you described the interconnectedness of all these systems and how that works with our gut health and our digestive processes and especially the liver's primary role in all this, When things start getting out of balance for all these reasons, with the roots in trauma or roots in exposure to toxins in our environment and food today, or whether it's overwork and stress, whatever it is that's going on, or combination thereof, we get in kind of a non-virtuous cycle, right? And then there's a cascading effect, right? There's all these downstream cascading ill effects and ultimately leading systemic inflammation, which is really then the basis of all the chronic stress, all the chronic illnesses, right? So somehow we have to begin to stop the momentum or interrupt the momentum of that non-virtuous cycle and begin getting it moved the other way. And I assume that if we can get it moving the other way, the body has a miraculous quality for self-healing, and the design of our body is just amazing to begin with. So it is designed to work, right? If we can get it moving in the right direction, can we create a positive momentum that will then— Support us in living optimally. So I wonder if you could talk about how that, how that works.
Absolutely. I love that question, Fleet, because most people make the mistake of suppressing symptoms either with medications or even with natural products, right? Taking the chamomile tea for sleep or the coffee for more energy, and that perpetuates this negative cycle. But when you heal the pillars, right? So for gut health, probiotics, vitamin D, some other amino acids that I cover in the course, You stop the inflammation. You change your diet. Of course, very important. I often get clients to remove the gluten, the dairy, the beef, the excessive alcohol, the sugar, etc. Right there, you're stopping leaky gut, chronic damage to your intestines, and chronic inflammation. Then, of course, my course covers a lot of homeopathic remedies as well as herbs to detoxify the liver, because the liver is really the seat of most people's problems. Most people are taking probiotics. Most people are focusing on diet and gut health, but they're not healing the liver.
Yeah.
And when you forget to heal the liver, the bile doesn't flow, the hormones don't self-regulate. Yeah. So you're masking symptoms and you think you're getting better, but if the liver is stuck, you're going to collapse back into chronic illness. So things like milk thistle, dandelion, homeopathic remedies as well that are covered there, Nux vomica, Lycopodium, et cetera. These transform the liver's function, gets it into a positive cycle. So you're detoxifying, you're getting rid of the junk, you're producing the right digestive juices, then you're keeping the right digestive juices, then keep your microbiome, the gut bacteria healthy. So when you detoxify your liver, you create a positive cycle in your gut because you got the right bile flowing. You get rid of the constipation, you come naturally into hormonal balance. So instead of taking hormone remedies and all this stuff, That's that's forcing the hormones in a certain way. Detoxify your liver, support your adrenal glands. Yeah, herbs like ashwagandha, rhodiola, etc. Of course, I use these with precaution depending on the medical history of a person. So please don't just take these blindly. Consult with your naturopath. But when you clean up the liver, support the adrenal system, everything starts to self-regulate. You're not forcing anything in any direction, and because of that, you get more long-term healing, and it's cheaper to heal that way as well. You know, people. Spend thousands on supplements suppressing symptoms. But when you self-regulate, you need less supplements over time. And then the biggest cause of the negative cycle is this unhealed trauma sitting in our nervous system. Yeah. The childhood, whatever happened, whether it's divorce, mom getting beaten by dad, dad being absent, mom going on a trip and abandoning you. Yeah. Grandparents pouring their sorrow, sadness of whether it's poverty or The sadness of grandma pouring it onto your mom, and your mom feeling burdened by it. So you feel her unhappiness. All these things program you. Yeah, your beliefs, your personality, your emotions. This is what keeps you stuck in a cycle of negativity. And so family constellations therapy, the healing sentences, the emotional healing lifts you out of there. And when you lift it out of there, you're not in this fight, flight, or freeze response. You're not stressing your nervous system. So you naturally recover. much faster 'cause you're not in this dark cloud of negative emotions from your childhood or from your family system. So that's how you break the cycle, healing the gut, the liver, the adrenal system, childhood trauma, and family trauma.
One of the unique things about your work, I mean, there are many wonderful holistic physicians and naturopaths in the world today, people practicing integrative medicine and functional medicine. But then the world of psychotherapy tends to be apart from that. And you have a lot of psychotherapists, lots of wonderful different models, also psychotherapy. But you really bring these 2 things together and with this very holistic and integrative approach to healing and natural medicine. And then you also are very actively involved with supporting your patients with psychotherapy using this family constellation therapy, which I believe is the Hellinger work, the origins of that. And so I wonder if you could talk about for a moment this integration of psychotherapy and integrative medicine in the healing process? You've been alluding already, but I wonder if you could just go further with that, because one could do either, but they're being done in a more integrated way. I would assume there's probably some synergistic benefits from that.
Absolutely. So if you heal your mind and don't heal your body, yeah, then you're also stuck in chronic disease and chronic inflammation. And then if you take supplements without healing the trauma, releasing the trauma, yeah, your body's under control, but the mind, the unhealed trauma is stressing your nervous system and creating disease. I'm gonna give a few examples. Yeah. So I had a patient with cancer, stomach cancer, and it started about a few months after her father cheated on her mother. So she was of course shocked and angry, but why was she angry? Basically, her mother was grieving. And rejecting the father. And the mother complained to my client, oh, your dad is so bad, this is what he's done. So of course, and many of us do this, it's very natural, we are loyal to the weaker parent. So my client took on the anger of her mother, rejected her father, and kind of rescued her mother, became the parent of her mother. And that is dysfunctional for our nervous system, for any organism, yeah, for human beings, it's dysfunctional. And once I got her to really release the mom's anger, saying, dear mom, you know, I suffer with you. I love you very much. A lot of— I carry your pain with you, and I see that my pain is different from your pain. Yeah, I, I love my father very much, and out of love and loyalty to you, I am looking away from him. I'm moving away from him. Please forgive me if I let your anger be yours with deep respect, because you're the big one. I'm the young little one. This is the constellation therapy.
And then I—
and immediately at that point, she felt like, ah, okay, I realized I was swimming in my mom's anger and upsetness and rescuing her. And by bowing down to my mother as the big one and respecting her as the adult, I see that her journey of suffering, by me rejecting my father, she's not getting stronger.
Yeah.
By me allowing her to feel her pain, I see her as the adult and an enabled being. That set my client free. One. Then I got her to imagine looking at her dad. So the parents don't have to be there. Yeah, in this therapy, I got her to imagine looking at her dad, saying, dear Dad, it shocked me what you did. Yeah, I was surprised, and it's costing me my life though to reject you. Yeah, please forgive me. I'm your daughter. Yeah, and I do take you back into my heart. I've always been your daughter. Okay, she felt a deep relief down in her system, and believe it or not, six months later, without chemotherapy, without drugs, etc., no cancer. Tumor markers just poof gone. Yeah, I have many other clients. Anxiety, for example. Somebody came in chronic anxiety overwhelmed. We were doing homeopathy. We were doing the adrenal support. We were doing the detox. And of course, those are important to stabilize the body. But there was this underlying overwhelm that kept persisting. So I got her to go home, ask her mom, did— was there a miscarriage or abortion? And she came back to the clinic shocked. She was like, how did you know? I was right. There was a miscarriage in her family. And now, why is that important for you? Because when there's a miscarriage, we often forget about that child. One, so they're excluded. These are the rules of constellation that we need to include everyone. That child, miscarried child, was excluded. Number 2, my client came after the miscarried child. So in terms of birth order or life order or soul order, she was second child, not first. So she was feeling overwhelmed because she was acting the first position, but she belonged to the second child position. So I got her to do this exercise in family constellations where I got her to imagine her parents behind her. Then I got her to imagine this first child behind her as well, in between her and the parents. Then I got her to feel, yeah, feel her position as this in second place, as the second child. Now it's hard to imagine, but for the first time in her life, her heart relaxed, overwhelm disappeared, and she didn't need therapy anymore. Okay. So I agree, it's important to use the holistic medicine. Yeah, I have thousands of patients using homeopathy, whether it's Aurum metallicum for deep depression, guilt, et cetera, Ignatia for fear of betrayal. And we'll talk about homeopathic remedies actually very soon. But it's also important to heal the root cause, which often comes from systemic or family trauma.
Yeah.
So hopefully I've described the importance of combining the two. Let me talk about the biology as well. So yes, I've had people with chronic anxiety as well, and they've done all the therapies in the world. But guess what? They had a food sensitivity. I actually had a patient, a suicidal patient who'd done every single therapy, energy healing, psychotherapy, et cetera. And when we removed gluten from her diet, yeah, we healed her gut with probiotics and other amino acids. The suicidal thoughts went. So it was mostly gluten. So sometimes the biology is the problem, especially when there's burnout. Yeah, people are stressed and burnt out. So yes, they'll do the therapy to feel better, but the body's exhausted. And when the body's exhausted, cortisol is out of balance, neurotransmitters cannot catch up. So we need adrenal support there. You need the B vitamins, the ashwagandha, the rhodiola, and all these course, uh, these herbs that I cover in the courses, because the body needs nourishment to make the right neurotransmitters. So healing the mind and the body together is essential for well-being. Essential.
I love the, the family constellation therapy is so illuminating because in many ways we don't— most of us don't realize this, but we're all playing out the unprocessed and uncompleted emotional lives of our ancestors. And in many ways, there's some wonderful psychotherapeutic work. Virginia Satir did a sculpting work, and she would show how when people were locked into chronic conflict, like couples locked into conflict, generally the roots went back to both of their parents, and they're really playing out— it's like the ghosts of their parents Or playing out these conflicts through them, right? And it can be so illuminating when we can actually release these, and whether our parents are still with us or not, to release and with complete love. But that's their work. We have our own work. We have our own destiny. But it gets all mixed up and conflated, and we can be suffering in all sorts of ways and have no idea what the roots are. But it's very illuminating.
Absolutely. You see, we do it out of love and loyalty. Nothing wrong with it. So I never pathologize these loyalties because then if I say that's wrong, then we're forcing ourselves to get better. But when I invite you to feel the love and loyalty you have to your parents' suffering, yeah, only in that awareness do you then create choice for yourself and say, okay, you know what, this is unnecessary. I see, Dad, you're big. I see, Mom, you're capable. Is it okay if I give this to you? So always with permission rather than resistance.
Yeah.
Otherwise, it becomes a blocked healing and it doesn't work.
So let's talk about homeopathy now. And maybe you could— probably many of our listeners are familiar to one degree or another with homeopathy, but maybe some not. So I wonder if you could just describe homeopathy, which at least my understanding of it is that Using various herbal medicines and various things. We use this kind of— not the same as the world of microdosing, but these kind of microdoses of things that begin to trigger a healing process in the body. But it's a little difficult sometimes for people to grasp because it was seemingly, and according to Western science, the doses we're doing, you wouldn't think they would have any effect. Or we can't see, you know, in the test tube maybe. I don't know where that stands in terms of that kind of science investigating homeopathy, but certainly many people have experienced profound healing through homeopathy. So just describe what homeopathy is for us a little bit and then perhaps how you use it with your clients and patients.
With pleasure. So homeopathy, one of my favorite modalities, yeah, because it's energetic in nature and it's energetic because there's actually no molecule of the original substance, the herb, the plant, the mineral, the animal thingy, In the tablet or the liquid that you're taking, and that's why it's profound because it works at a vibrational level. And we matter basically; we are vibrational beings, and the vibration transforms into matter. Yeah, and so disease is a state of matter that is created by a faulty vibration. So we can force the matter with herbs and supplements, but if the vibration is faulty and we don't transform that, the matter remains sick. And then when you transform the vibration with homeopathic remedies, with trauma release, with constellation work, and then the matter starts to heal because the vibration shifts. So we got to heal the vibration in order for the matter to heal more completely and more permanently. So what is homeopathy and how is it created? Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, yeah, a legend, a legend in medicine. He is the originator of homeopathy. And he discovered homeopathy by like this. He basically— there's a bark of a tree, the cinchona tree, that has quinine in it, and it's used to treat malaria. Okay, he overdosed on this bark and he took large amounts and got the symptoms of malaria. Yeah, headache, joint pain, etc. So he was like, hang on a sec, how come if I take large amounts of something, I get the symptoms of what it's meant to cure? And he said, aha. So that means if I have symptoms of something, and what if I take tiny amounts of this amount, then that's whatever creates symptoms in large amounts, in toxic doses. Yeah. Then that means if I take small amounts of that same substance, it will cure the symptoms of what it would create in toxic doses, basically. Yeah. So like cures like, the principles of homeopathy. Let me simplify that. If you cut an onion, sniff it, you get watery eyes and a runny nose.
Yeah.
And so when somebody comes with an allergy, watery eyes and a runny nose, I say, ah, this looks like the picture of an onion, like somebody who sniffed an onion. So I'll give them a tiny dose, a homeopathic dose of onion. Similarly, Arsenicum album, a very common remedy, is used for food poisoning. If you take large doses of arsenic, you're not meant to. It's a poison. It'll kill you. People get diarrhea, vomiting, all that. Yeah. And so when somebody comes with the symptoms of food poisoning, so diarrhea, vomiting, chills, yeah, this thirst for water, it looks like a picture of Arsenicum album, even though they haven't taken arsenic. They've just got a bug. But the picture looks like that of arsenicum album, so I'll give them homeopathic arsenicum. Similarly, for mental health, there's aurum metallicum, for example. Yeah, homeopathic gold. So people who are guilt— feel guilty, they've gone through a sense of failure, depression, suicidal thoughts, etc., I'll often use homeopathic gold, aurum metallicum. I'll also use homeopathy for trauma.
Why?
Because trauma is a vibration. It's not a physical thing. It's a vibration that's stuck in our nervous system. Yeah. So a B vitamin cannot really release trauma per se. Psychotherapy can, but vibrational medicine like homeopathy, like Bach flowers, they touch the vibration of trauma and can release trauma. Yeah.

And that's why homeopathy is amazing, because it transforms The entire physiology, the vibration, etc., of a person from deep within. Yeah, into a permanent healing. For example, client with seizures. Yeah, she came in and I intuitively felt, okay, what happened with your sister? She was shocked. I didn't even know she had a sister. She started crying. She was like, how did you know? I was like, I don't know, there's something about your sister. She says, you're right. She says, when I was a young girl, my sister was 12 years old. We got into an accident, a car accident, and my sister was on my right side. Yeah. And I lost my sister. She died in the accident. Okay. Then after the accident, she didn't have any symptoms. Then she had a dream that she, her daughter, she was pregnant. Yeah. She had a dream that Her sister was coming back to her through her daughter. So now her subconscious thinks her daughter is her sister. She doesn't know that mentally.
Yeah.
Now guess what? When the daughter reaches 12 years old, my client starts getting epileptic fits, seizures on her right side. Okay. So in the therapy session, I got her to say, To her sister, not to her daughter, but to her sister. Dear sister, you know, you're what's missing for me. I've missed you. I'm sorry I couldn't save you. So she could feel the stuck response of trying to rescue her sister. Yeah, that was stuck in a seizure response. And she cried. She bawled out from connecting to the deep love and grief of losing her sister. And she relaxed and she's like, okay, I don't need to save you right now. That night, 50 to 80%, I kid you not, of reduction in seizures. It sounds Unbelievable, but it's true. And then I looked at homeopathic remedies. So in homeopathy, we have a beautiful book called the Repertory, and it has every bloody— excuse my language, sorry— it has every symptom you can imagine, right? So there's a whole chapter for types of traumas. Yeah, so ailments or sicknesses from accidents, from parents fighting, from loss of business, from breakups, from death of a loved one, you name it, right? So there's a whole chapter. So I looked at that ailments from accidents. There was about 5 or 10 remedies. Yeah, opium was one of them, homeopathic opium. And then I looked in the chapter of tremors and, you know, limbs and legs. And I looked at, you know, tremors in the, in the legs, worse when falling asleep, because my client would tremor on falling asleep. So her body wouldn't let go of collapsing because she needed to fix something and resolve something in her life, rescuing her sister. Again, in that chapter, opium came up. So, and there was other symptoms as well. So I gave her homeopathic opium. Gone.
Yeah.
Seizures almost to zero. I think she's completely cured right now. We lost touch, but she's completely fine. I don't think even she's on medication anymore. Fully resolved, right? By combining the constellation work, the trauma healing. and homeopathy. Okay? That's the beauty of homeopathy and integrating medicine. And I have lots of examples.
Yeah, we don't have to get too deep into this, but I'm just curious. So you said the homeopathic medicine, whether it's kind of in a tincture or whatever form it's in, no longer actually contains the molecule of the original substance, but it contains the energetic vibration.
Mm-hmm.
So I wonder if anything, without getting too far afield in it, of how that's produced, how these are created. But then more importantly, you know, if we're working with homeopathic medicine, what the sources of these are and whether there are good sources and not so great sources. I mean, how do we verify we're getting high-quality homeopathic medicines that are done With however that's done, that we actually preserve the energetic vibration without having the actual molecule present.
So homeopathic remedies are created out of plant substances, mineral substances, and animal byproducts, and also out of like anything out there in nature. Like, yeah, anything— gold, vaccines. You can find homeopathic versions of vaccines, you name it. How they create it is you take a tiny amount of the substance, they call it like one part of it, and you put in 100 parts of some grains, usually it's like lactose or something, and you grind that for about 4 hours. Then you take one tiny part of that and put in 100 parts of something else. Yeah, so it's rediluting. Eventually you now transfer this one part into water and alcohol. So you take one part of this ground substance, put in— I'm very— I'm simplifying it, okay? And you put 100 parts of water and alcohol, and you shake that up for a long time. And then you take one drop of that, yeah, and redilute in 100 parts of water and alcohol. So, and then you shake it up for a long time. It's called potentization. And you do this multiple times. And when you cross, when you do 12 dilutions, you reach what's called a 12C. Usually at a 12C and beyond, then you surpass what they call Avogadro's number. I don't know the science behind it, but basically there's no molecule left. But the theory is that you polarize the water molecules or you just capture the vibration. We don't know how to measure the effect of homeopathy with scientific tools, right? But that doesn't mean it's not valid. Science is just one modality of measuring phenomena. Yeah, but it's not the gold standard of experiencing life. You know, God is beyond science. Nature is beyond science. Yeah, vibration. Science might catch up.
Mm-hmm.
But science is not the end-all and be-all of proof of any medicine. Yeah. And so that's how homeopathic remedies are made. And that's why they're so profound is because we look at the unique symptoms of a person. We look at the collection of symptoms and then choose the remedy that matches the entire picture. So, for example, constipation. There's thousands of remedies for constipation, right? Max vomica, Lycopodium, etc. I had a client with chronic constipation. We tried the herbs, we tried the magnesium, we tried the Triphala, everything. I even gave her homeopathic remedies specifically for constipation. It didn't fully work. Then I looked at the traumas in her life. Guess what? She'd grown up with her parents fighting. And in that book called The Repertory, the homeopathic book, there's a chapter, ailments from discord between parents. Yeah, arguments between parents. One of the remedies in there was Graphites. And Graphites is a great constipation remedy. When I gave her Graphites, constipation gone. Right?
Mm-hmm.
So the beauty of homeopathy is we look at the uniqueness of symptoms. Is there bloating? Is there thirst?
Yeah.
Is the constipation worse with water, with certain foods? Is your asthma worse at 2 in the morning? Is it better with warm drinks, cold drinks? We distinguish, we differentiate, yeah, your symptoms so we can select a more unique remedy for you. And because of the uniqueness of the remedy, the healing goes much deeper, much faster, and more permanent.
It's saying what you are, you know, there's— I've seen before, many people have probably seen this, there was research done where They— the connection between our psychophysical state and water and, and, and, and then that showing up in, in water, I think, freezing the water. So then you start to get crystalline patterns in the ice. And so when water around someone who's in a state of joy versus someone who's in a state of anger or a state of upset, you You see completely different patterns than water. So obviously we live in a vibrational and energy world and we're interconnected in that way profoundly. So it makes complete sense that the ultimate healing is at the energetic level. And even in terms of quantum theory, we could be talking about we're getting into the quantum level and quantum healing and so forth. So is there an international body that certifies the quality of homeopathic medicine so that people know they're getting quality, or you just have to know the good brands or?
Yeah.
So on my website, when people sign up, I have access to professional dispensaries. Yeah. People get access to my professional dispensaries, the ones that I trust, and they even get discounts for specific homeopathic remedies. So I only trust those ones, to be honest. Yeah. Because they, they follow certain protocols for storing the remedies, making sure they're not near, you know, phones and all these other things that kind of affect homeopathic remedies. And they choose mostly the professional brands that have potent, potent effects because there's some useless brands out there as well. They put all the ingredients in there, but there's no actual potent effect. Yeah. And so in these dispensaries also, I keep a list of the ones that I choose, the liver protocols as well. And then I love using certain drops that combine different remedies as well. So you don't have to struggle figuring out which is the best remedy for you. Yeah, I've got a list of products that have different, 5 or 6 different homeopathic remedies blended together for gas issues, for constipation, for fear, for anxiety, for stimulating your immune system, for detoxifying your lymphatic system. So there's wonderful products out there. You just need to know where to look. And I've simplified it for everyone. So just go to the website, sign up in the email, you get a link to the professional dispensary. And you're good to go.
So we've been alluding to this all along. You've been alluding to this all along, but just the overall body-mind connection. I wonder if you could just talk a little bit more about the body-mind connection, because obviously when we're talking about energy healing, when we're talking about integrating psychotherapy and trauma work with the physical work of nutrition and holistic medicine and so forth, we're really in this body-mind connection world. And so I just wonder if you could elaborate a little more in terms of what you've really learned through your work.
Yeah.
Understanding about the body-mind connection. And, you know, there's a whole thing in Western medicine about describing things as psychosomatic, as if that means they're not real, or then the placebo effect. And then, of course, some people may not have heard about the nocebo effect, right? But, you know, as if these are— things that invalidate. And in fact, they're really part of the overall healing process of understanding the mind and the body and that are the intelligence of our immune system, which science really can't even begin to explain. I mean, there's obviously this incredible level of intelligence that's operating at so many different levels. What we think of as the mind that we're aware of at the energetic quantum level of spirit of beingness, I mean, it's all on a Continuum, obviously. And so I wonder if you could talk about sort of your understanding of all that and how you— that helps facilitate healing.
I love that. So I've alluded to the gut, the liver, and the adrenal system.
Yeah.
How unhealthy foods, probiotics, antibiotics, et cetera, destroy our gut microbiome, affect our neurotransmitters, affect our mood, how toxicity as well affects your brain chemicals. And when you have adrenal fatigue, that also affects your neurotransmitters, affecting your brain chemicals, and therefore your perception and your mood. So that's the body-mind connection and the gut-brain axis people talk about, right? Let's go the other way around now. When your mom or dad is sad, right, you take on their sadness. Yeah. And you, out of love and loyalty, you become sad with them. And so maybe your breathing changes, your posture changes, you're— you go into depression. But very important now, when you are stressed or traumatized or unhappy, there's this big beautiful nerve called the vagus nerve. Yeah, it's a massive nerve that innervates your breathing, your gut, your liver, your heart rate, etc. It actually releases chemicals called cytokines that affect your gut microbiome, your liver, the way your liver produces or releases bile, and all that. Now, when you're stressed, traumatized, you have unhealed trauma in your nervous system, or you're sad for mom, or you're angry with your sister, et cetera, your vagus nerve changes in function. It releases different chemicals to your liver, to your breathing, to your heart rate, to your gut. So it's transforming your physiology immediately. Immediately. Yeah. So imagine now you have unhealed stress and trauma perpetually stimulating this vagus nerve. You have to be sick, tired, et cetera. Your physiology is going to shift completely to match the kind of stress you're experiencing from the environment on a daily basis. So then you start becoming unhealthy, unhappy. That's why unhappiness and unhealthiness go together. Yeah, because the nervous system, the vagus nerve, your mind, the effect of the mind on the nerves, and then the effect of the nerves on your gut, liver, etc., they all happen simultaneously. And so that the moment you release that trauma, the moment you express that anger or forgive mom for the abandonment or the abuse, yeah, the moment you forgive dad for, I don't know, breaking up with mom or causing the conflict, and you come back to that state of peace and neutrality, your vagus nerve also resets itself, and then it sends different signals to your physiology— gut, liver, adrenals, etc. I have to Check that one, but basically the rest of your body. And so if different signals are being sent, healthy signals are being sent, your physiology relaxes, comes back into a healthy flow. Your liver starts releasing the right amount of bile. Your gut has the right kind of cytokines that then nourish your good bacteria back to a healthier state. Leaky gut reduces, then chronic inflammation goes down, right? And everything starts to heal. And you can see that when, when, if somebody has arthritis, asthma, eczema, arthritis, whatever, and they're stressed, usually their symptoms are worse, right? Because stress affects the nervous system, the vagus nerve, and that affects, of course, all the organs. And when the organs are affected, then the chronic inflammation, the chronic disease gets stronger.
I wonder if, I know you do in your work, Have practices that you offer people to begin to move that this body-mind continuum in in a positive direction, even the stimulation of the vagus nerve. I don't know whether you use breathwork or different things like that, but I'm just wondering what kind of practices you offer your kind of body-mind practices. Do you offer your patients and clients, and whether you might be willing to lead us in in a brief session or something?
Yeah, with pleasure. With pleasure. So at the retreats I do in Sardinia and Kenya, where we do safaris and beach time together, or wherever it is in the world, I'll do a lot of emotional healing exercises, and we'll lead you through one of those. But alternate nostril breathing, alternate nostril breathing, analom vilom, very important for resetting the nervous system. And we'll do that first. Then I'll show you an emotional healing exercise because most of it's very powerful healing exercise. Many people, most of us, we resist our emotions. Yeah, we don't want to feel jealous, we don't want to feel fear, we don't want to feel disappointed or exhausted. And so our mind takes over. And this exercise is also on my website. It allows you to really make love and embrace these difficult emotions that you, you don't want to feel. And when you start feeling them in a safe way, your whole body relaxes. You're like, oh my God, they're not so bad actually. This is my Truth, and when I'm in my truth, I heal faster as well. Yeah. So very briefly, analom vilom alternate nostril breathing. I'll just demonstrate it, and then I'll lead you through the emotional healing exercise, which I think is more pertinent for this conversation. Yeah. So analom vilom basically you it's called alternate nostril breathing because how you do it is you block one nostril, you place your fingers on your forehead, you close your eyes, and you concentrate on your third eye here. Yeah. And then you basically take an inhale from your left nostril, then switch fingers, close the left, and exhale through the right. Then inhale through the right, close the right, exhale through the left. So inhale, switch nostrils, hold your breath a bit, and then exhale. Inhale again, switch nostrils, exhale again. So it's in, switch nostril, exhale. Inhale, switch nostril, exhale. And I usually recommend doing this for about 2 to 3 minutes, 3 to 5 times a day. And you can feel it as you do it. Inhale, switch, exhale. Inhale, switch, exhale.
Beautiful.
And what that's doing, it's calming your nervous system, resetting your vagus nerve that we talked about. Yeah. And when you reset your vagus nerve, of course, your gut, your liver, everything comes more into balance. Yeah. So alternate nostril breathing, extremely important to really calm your nervous system down and take your physiology to a transformative state of healing. Why I say transformative is because it's really, it's not forced healing. It's a transformation towards a positive cycle rather than remaining in a negative loop of sickness.
Well, I can attest to the power of alternate nostril breathing. I've done it a lot in my life over many years, and even doing it just now, I felt my entire nervous system just completely calm down, just doing it even for 30 seconds or so. So very powerful. Breath regulation tool.
Then the other exercise I'd love to introduce you to is permission to heal or permission to feel exercise. So like I said, we're resisting our feelings. Yeah. And so this exercise basically says, I get you to say to yourself, it's safe for me to feel exhausted from time to time, or it's safe for me to feel anxious or good or pleasure from time to time. So the important words to use at the end of the sentence, and this exercise is on my website as well, is the words from time to time. Because if I say it's safe to feel happy, it's almost like a forced affirmation, or safe to feel anxious. I'm kind of trying to convince myself, but I'm not convinced. But if I say from time to time, I'm allowing myself to experience and not experience at the same time. So I give my nervous system, my mindset, my perception choice. And whenever there's choice, the body takes over. And when the body takes over, it naturally goes into a healing state. Yeah. So let's try that if you're open to it. So I invite you to put whatever phones, etc., on the couches or wherever. Make sure you're not driving or doing anything dangerous. Take a deep breath in and out. And you can put one hand on your belly and one hand on your heart, or even one hand on your forehead if you want. I often say one hand on your forehead and one hand behind your head as well. That actually connects the brain hemispheres and makes this exercise more powerful. And then notice the feelings you're feeling. So I'm just going to walk you through some sentences, and you can replace the words I'm using with the own emotions you're feeling. Okay, so let us begin. Deep breath in and relax and out. And then just connect to whatever you feel in your heart and you can begin. You can whisper it or say it out loud. It's safe for me to relax once in a while. And just feel how that feels to say once in a while. So you're not forcing relaxation. You're just exploring the possibility of it from time to time. So once in a while, from time to time. It's safe for me to let go of my thoughts or my Sensations once in a while. Beautiful. And notice how you feel.
Good.
It's safe for me to be ready from time to time. And just notice what that feels like. I'm not asking you to be ready. I'm not forcing you. It's just safe to be ready once in a while. You don't have to stay there all the time. Beautiful. Exactly. Notice what kind of permission your whole body, your physiology gets when you just allow it some permission. And then you can say, it's safe for me to collapse or be exhausted from time to time. Or once in a while, and notice what happens there. You don't have to force exhaustion. You don't have to force alertness. All is okay. It's safe for me to relax and maybe push people away, or I don't know, let go of stress, or people's energy from time to time. Yeah. So put your own words there. So in my books and online course, I give more specific examples, but just feel what is true for you in this moment. And I'll just give you a couple of minutes in silence for you to continue the sentences in your own pace. And just notice how it feels. You can think them, explore whispering, or saying it aloud. Lovely. Just feel the permission. No shoulds, no judgment about your emotions. Your beliefs. You can even say it's safe to feel angry from time to time, or jealous of my cousin or my friend or whatever, once in a while. Give yourself permission to explore the entire spectrum of human experience. You are allowed today and forever.
Excellent.
Take a deep breath in and out. Let it go. Let the exploration and the experiment— just let it go. And I invite you to just come back to the screen, to Fleet and me, and just enjoy the rest of this interview. Thank you.
Beautiful. Wow.
It's—
it was really amazing how just that expression of from time to time or once in a while That just, uh, I just felt myself immediately relaxing into a very receptive, uh, state and just that sense of allowing, of giving permission. Really powerful.
Yeah, I feel your heart right now. You know, I, I— your voice has changed. Everything, the whole vibration has shifted in the entire room. It's beautiful. Thank you, Fleet. Wonderful.
Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. So I know you, you have retreats that you offer in Africa. You have retreats you do in Europe. You have courses online on your website. How can people find out more about your work if they would like to explore it further with you?
So there's free videos on gut healing, liver detox, and a lot of masterclasses on combining homeopathy, constellation work, trauma healing. Yeah, gut healing, all these things on my website, dramid.com. That's D-R-A-M-I-D. And the retreats are there. If there's enough people inviting me to Costa Rica or the US or wherever, I'm open. Yeah, I love bringing this work to different parts of the world. I live in Kenya, so if you're interested in Kenya, of course you can combine safari and beach time and experience deep inner transformation in really Africa. And Africa, if you believe the theory, You know, mankind started here, and you can feel the energy, right? You feel the energy when you heal in nature in Africa. Oof! Something else transforms deep in your nervous system. And then often I do it in Europe, usually the Mediterranean islands like Sardinia and Greece, because it's halfway for anyone in America to come over and me from Kenya to come over. So it's a nice meeting point, and there's beautiful beaches there as well. Healthy food. And Sardinia is one of the blue zones of the world, right? And so the energy there is also super powerful. So it's dramet.com, D-R-A-M-E-E-T.com. I really invite you to Kenya. It'll be a pleasure to have you here. Of course, a dream. And of course, Europe is also fantastic. And then watch the free videos on my website. And there's also full courses in holistic medicine available, homeopathy, family constellations therapy. They're all out there. Yeah. And if you need continuing education credits, we're working on that. Um, just go through the courses and it'll take you to another level of healing. So really enjoy that experience as well.
Wonderful. I would love to visit Kenya someday. I, I have been to Africa twice, to Rwanda both times, and I was there doing, uh, genocide prevention work, peace work. But I did on one of the trips, I didn't get up into see the gorillas. I really wanted to do that, never managed to do it. But I did get out to a national park on the border with Tanzania, which is, I don't think, far from Kenya and in that similar area. And we spent 12 hours in a Land Rover out in this park and saw just, it was amazing what we saw with the Cape buffalo and the giraffes. And it was just amazing, an amazing experience. So I would love to get to Kenya someday. Thank you so much for your work, Amit, and for this. Thank you. Incredible conversation. There's so much there, and I really encourage people to check out your work online because, you know, we're all exposed to so much. We all have whatever trauma we have in our backgrounds, but we're exposed to so much trauma and so much disconcerting information, and there's just so much uncertainty in the pace of change. There's so much we really have to take care of ourselves. I mean, good self-care is not a luxury or an option anymore. It's really something that we really need to focus on. And you offer so many modalities to begin to understand our own bodies and minds at a deeper level and really with more precision, do the things and get the support that'll get us into that virtuous cycle where the natural beauty of our mind and body can take over and get us in a kind of positive momentum with our health and wellbeing. So Thank you so much for the work you do. And again, really encourage people to check out your website at drameet.com. Thank you.
Thank you, Fleet. And thank you everyone for listening and opening your hearts to the healing energy in this interview today. And I hope it transforms your mindset and really your innate wisdom to, to heal automatically. So lots of love from Kenya, and I hope to see you soon in Sardinia, Greece, or on safari.
Beautiful.
Thank you so much, Amin. Thank you.
