In this interview, Heather Prince welcomes Dr. Ashish Paul to discuss Ayurvedic nutrition for pregnant women and new mothers. Dr. Paul emphasizes that nutritional needs change across each trimester and continue after birth. He outlines the importance of eating appropriate foods for each stage, criticizing common post‑birth diets like ice‑cream and tea, and recommends warm, easily digestible meals such as khichdi. He also highlights specific herbal teas—fenugreek for milk production and digestion, and fennel—for postpartum support. The conversation concludes with Dr. Paul providing his website (ashishveda.uk) where he offers trimester‑specific diet plans and postpartum guidance.

Welcome, Dr. Ashish Paul, to the Energy Studio here at the Rootmaster. This is Heather Prince speaking. So today we're going to talk about ladies who are pregnant on my Meditation for Pregnancy and Birth page on Facebook. What would you like to explain to these mums-to-be, or perhaps they've already got one and they're having their second one?
So what pregnant women have to realize is the different nutritional needs that they have during each trimester. So what do they need to eat during the first trimester, second trimester, third trimester, the last month? So nutritional needs change. So they need to eat according to that so they get the best for the newborn that is going to come into the world. And also to realize what to do once they have had the baby. I mean, I have seen so many patients and women who are— what they are actually eating is just appalling. I mean, eating ice cream after they have given birth is not the best thing to do. So to understand the nutritional needs that they have once they have given birth, for example, Ayurveda says warm foods, warm khichdi, And light digestible, easily digestible food should be taken after, once you have given birth. But if you look at the diet that we have in hospitals or even at home, you know, the bread, the tea, and all of that food is not really what we need to be having once we have given birth because we need the energy, we need the strength to cope with the childbirth. And of course then the herbs and herbal teas that we give, for example, we give Fenugreek tea, fenugreek herbal tea. So it helps with the milk flow as well as it helps with digestion as well, and we give fennel tea as well. So it's just to understand what to do when you are pregnant, what kind of food to eat, and also what to do afterwards.
Excellent. And if people wish to find out a diet plan before their birth and after their birth, how do they get in touch with you?
So website is ashishveda.uk, and you can just contact me, and we do put plans in place for each trimester and even afterwards so that it's best suitable to you.
