Hi, today I want to talk to you about, is the grass greener? So many of us think that other people are happier than we are. You know, if somebody lives in Knightsbridge, oh, they've got to be happier than somebody that lives down in Bethnal Green. Or if somebody lives with the lifestyle of having their own jet plane or their own boat, Or they drive a Ferrari. Of course they're better than us if we just have our, our little car outside that actually needed to be replaced 3 years ago. There's something called the focusing effect, and the focusing effect means that the reality of your life is where you focus your thoughts on. Have you ever thought about that before? Think about what you are actually thinking. And what you're actually speaking and see if that reflects your current reality because it does. In fact, the grass is always greener on what you actually focus on. So if somebody is focusing on lack, that's exactly what their reality would be in life. It would be the lack of a partner, it would be the lack of the right job, it would be the lack of enough money. But if you shift your focus and you're in the present and you learn to be in the moment and you are mindful of what you're thinking and the words you're actually saying, it's like throwing out a boomerang out into the sphere, the universe, the divine, whatever you want to call it. I'm not getting religious here. And then whatever you're thinking, whatever you're saying, actually boomerangs back to you. And if that all sounds a bit woo-woo and a bit far-fetched, as they say, suck it and see. The next thing that's important, other than focusing on being in the present moment, is to release expectations. As humans, we always have expectations. About our kids, about our partner, about our families, and if they don't meet those expectations, who ends up feeling bad? We do. So release those expectations and just allow everything to be and realise that whoever's around you is actually a mirror. They're mirroring back to you what you need to address. About yourself. In the current year of 2015, the world is all about social media and everyone shows their highlights and it makes you perhaps compare your life to theirs and you think, oh, their life's much better than me, they're always doing this, that and the other. But nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. No one knows the truth. They're showing their highlights, so rather than focusing on them, why don't you take some time and focus on your highlights? Whatever simple highlights there are— that beautiful walk in nature, that little cuddle with a child, stroking your pet, spending time with an elderly relative, listening to their memories. Whatever it is, focus on your own personal highlights and be grateful for what you have right now. So I'm going to set you a challenge. Every day, jot down 3 grateful things that happen to you, whether it's meeting someone, whether it's gaining a compliment, or having A smile from a stranger, whatever it is, take notice, be present and be grateful.
