Heather Prince walked across fire nine years ago for a hospice charity, terrified but unwilling to disappoint the regional organizer. The experience, captured on camera by a fellow networker, shifted something in her. She still has the medal and certificate in her bedroom, and says it made her feel capable of anything.

Hello, Heather Prince here, and today I'm going to share with you an important moment in my life, and that was when I very first started networking about 9 years ago. And there was a representative there from a charity, from a local hospice, and they said, who would like to walk on fire? And the ladies around the table, you know, were putting up their hand, and I thought, okay, you know, I'll give it a go. And the date got nearer, and we had a meeting, and I went along, and the lady that ran the region at that time was going to do it, and I thought, I can't let her down, but I really felt inside that actually I didn't really want to do it. And then when I arrived at the meeting, she said, oh, all the ladies that volunteered have now said that they can't go, so it's just you and me. And I looked at her and I liked her so much, I thought, I can't say no, I can't let her down. And I didn't know at that time that family and friends could come along and watch. So off I went on my own to the hospice, and we spent hours that afternoon in training to do this firewalk. And we practiced it and we visualized it in our mind, and we went to see the fire being built and how big it was and how long it was, and then we went back into another room to practice that visualization and that imagination of we've done it and how it would feel and the achievement, and we prepared ourselves, and I went out and there was all these people watching, and it wasn't anybody that I knew except one lovely lady from the networking group had come with a camera, and she nearly captured me but not quite, so I have got some pictures to prove that I actually did it, and I got a medal. Which I've still got hanging up in my bedroom, and a certificate to say that I completed it, and I got sponsored to do it. But it was such a shame that none of my family or my friends were there to witness it. But I promise you that when you've walked on fire and you've done something that is really, really fearful, and as they say, face your fears and do it anyway, It really makes you feel like you can do anything. But don't ask me to jump out of an aeroplane with a parachute, but walking on fire was enough. Now I feel I can achieve anything. So I hope that this inspires you to face your fears and do it anyway. This is Heather Prince. Have a great day. Bye. Bye.
