👉 Why You Keep Attracting Emotionally Unavailable Men (and How to Break the Cycle)

Heather Prince breaks down what emotional unavailability actually is: not cruelty, but an inability to engage in deep, consistent intimacy. Watch for hot-and-cold patterns, avoidance of feeling-focused conversations, and loving words without follow-through. Partners end up chronically anxious, over-functioning, and lonely despite being coupled.

I would like to share with you what emotionally unavailable actually means. When someone is emotionally unavailable, it doesn't mean they're cold, cruel, or incapable of love. It means they're unwilling or unable to meet you in the emotional depth and consistency that you're craving. It's not about flowers on Valentine's Day or sweet texts at the beginning. It's about whether they can sit with your feelings, share their own feelings, and build safety and intimacy with you. Think of it like this: you're standing at the door of intimacy, knocking, And they've either bolted the lock or they keep opening it just enough to let you peek inside before slamming it shut again. So let me give you some common examples of emotional unavailability. Hot and cold behaviour. One day they're all in, texting you constantly, planning the future, telling you how amazing you are. The next day— silence. Suddenly they're too busy, distracted, or vague. You end up anxiously waiting for their next breadcrumb of affection. That's not passion, that's inconsistency, and inconsistency is a hallmark of emotional unavailability. The second thing is avoiding depth. They're fine talking about work, sports, or their Netflix series or movie, but when the conversation shifts to feelings, needs, or the relationship itself, poof, they shut down, change the subject, or make you feel like you're, you're too intense. So this avoidance is their way of keeping the relationship surface level so they don't have to be vulnerable. And thirdly, words without action. They might say, I love you, I want a future with you, but their behaviour doesn't back it up. They don't make concrete plans Don't show up when you need support and don't consistently invest in building the relationship. Emotionally unavailable people often give you just enough to keep hope alive but not enough to actually create stability. And another thing is fear of commitment. They keep things vague. Let's Let's just see where this goes, or I'm not ready for a label right now. You feel like you're in a situationship rather than a partnership. They might even talk about wanting love, but when it comes to stepping up, they stall or run. And another one is they put walls up. You share Your heart, your struggles, your dreams, and they keep theirs under lock and key. You know surface facts about them, but you don't feel them. It's like trying to love someone through a sheet of glass. And another thing are distractions and numbing. Sometimes unavailability isn't obvious. It's hidden behind overworking, constant busyness, or numbing with alcohol, scrolling, or even spiritual bypassing. If they're always avoiding sitting themselves, sitting with themselves, they won't be able to sit with you. The emotional impact on you is... Here's how you know you're dealing with emotional unavailability. You constantly feel anxious, second-guessing where you stand. You feel like you're too much just for having needs. You over-function, doing all the emotional heavy lifting. You get crumbs of connection but never the full meal. In other words, being with someone emotionally unavailable leaves you feeling lonely inside the relationship, and that is the most painful kind of loneliness because you're technically with someone but your heart is starving. I know, I've experienced it. Don't hesitate to reach out for a free call with me. Sending so much love.
