In this solo Heroic Plus One episode, Brian Johnson opens with his daily morning ritual of checking his Oura Ring, recording his sleep score, and texting the results to his close friends Sean Casey and Brandon Guyer—a habit he says has sharpened his humanity over years. He describes the playful competition among the trio, marked by rear‑view‑mirror GIFs that signal who’s setting the pace. The conversation shifts to celebrating the next generation: Sean’s son Jake, a minor‑league player for the Toronto Blue Jays, who recently hit four home runs, including a 450‑foot blast and a game‑winning three‑run shot in the 10th inning. Brian highlights a tiny yet powerful moment after one of Jake’s homers—a fist bump of love exchanged with an opposing team’s bat boy—illustrating the “micro interaction” that embodies the spirit of celebratory love. He ties this anecdote to the broader philosophy that true heroism is found in recognizing and amplifying these small acts, helping kids win both on the field and in life. The episode closes with a call to action to subscribe, visit heroic.us for a library of wisdom, and commit to day one of living heroically together.

Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to another Heroic Plus One. This morning I woke up and did my thing. The first thing I do nearly every morning is drop the old Oura Ring on its charger, get the score, and text it to my dear friends Sean Casey and Brandon Guyer. I don't know how many days in a row we've been doing it, but it's been years. The practice has made me a better human, and it's also made me laugh and cry. When one of us absolutely dominates the others, we like to throw a little GIF of a dude looking back in his rearview mirror, Safely letting the others know we're setting a strong pace and it's time for them to step up their games to catch up. Now, I have been on the receiving end of that rearview mirror shot at least as often as I've given it. Last few days I've been on a roll though. So one of the other things we do is celebrate our kids. It's fantastic. We've discussed the power of celebratory love many times. Check out the links. But it's not every day you really get to celebrate life with people without it getting weird. So I really cherish the opportunity to do it with the boys. Now, Shawn's son Jake is playing minor league baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays. And this morning, Shawn sent videos of Jake hitting 4 home runs over the last couple games. I got goosebumps typing that and saying that. There were some monster shots in there, including a 450-foot bomb and a game-winning 3-run 10th-inning blast. Seeing Sean's son Jake rounding the bases with a pump that I'm pretty sure he got from his dad gave me tears in my eyes. He looked so strong and so joyful. I felt so happy for him and for his dad and so proud of both of them as well. But as I said in a text I sent to Jake, the thing I loved the most about those videos was a tiny little micro interaction after one of his home runs. So he's celebrating with his team after one of his bombs, and a tiny little bat boy from the opponent's team kind of steps in to get into the celebratory action, and Jake doesn't miss a beat and gives him a little fist bump of love too. It was a tiny, tiny little thing, but it was awesome. And as you know, if you follow baseball, Shawn was known as the Mayor when he played because he's such a nice, good guy and chatted everyone up when they got to first base. And by everyone, I mean everyone. And if you know Shawn, you know what I'm talking about. Now, as I watched that little micro interaction with Jake and the bat boy, I could feel his goodness. It was such a little thing, but it said everything. He is winning the ultimate game. So here's to celebrating our kids with our closest friends and making sure we remember to see the most important parts of every success, helping our kids win on and off the field as we help them give the world all we've got.
