A short spoken mini-chapter by Brian Johnson reflecting on his post-business journey and the lesson he learned while studying fitness: prioritize consistency over intensity. He argues that steady, manageable habits (e.g., regular mellow workouts) beat sporadic intense efforts that lead to burnout; the principle also applies to creative work.

Hi, this is Brian with another mini chapter from A Philosopher's Notes. This one's called Consistency Over Intensity. After I sold my first business E Teams, I had enough cash to take a couple years to figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up. I quickly realized that I was committed to studying and living universal truths of optimal living while inspiring others to do the same. I also quickly realized that if I had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, I was going to have a hard time living in my highest potential. So I decided to study how to optimize my energy. I figured going through the certification process to become a personal trainer would be a good way to introduce myself to the subject. I learned some cool stuff. The number one thing that stuck with me the most. Consistency over intensity. Think about it this way. When most people get into fitness, they're all about it. Hitting the gym or track or yoga class or trail or whatever, hard for a couple hours, feeling all geeked up about life and and their extraordinary commitment to really crushing at this time. That commitment tends to last right up until the next morning when they're so sore they can't get out of bed. Ouch. So the idea is this. It's way better to simply put on your shoes, head out and do a nice mellow workout consistently than it is to go all gonzo and then never go back. Consistency over intensity. Of course, it doesn't need to be either or and consistent intensity with intense rest phases is grand. But if you're not consistent yet, focus on that before you go for all the marbles. Yo. Consistency over intensity. This is one of my biggest ideas, both in training my body and in just delivering consistently creatively. Consistency over intensity. Really, really cool stuff. Hope you enjoyed. Look forward to sharing more with you soon. In the meantime, as always, have an awesome day.
