Heroic +1: The True Joy in Life: Being Thoroughly Worn Out (#1976)

Brian Johnson outlines three protocols for elite living: accept reality over perfectionism, design a demanding protocol and execute it, and deliberately push yourself on controllables. He reads George Bernard Shaw on the joy of being thoroughly worn out by a life used for purpose.

Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to another heroic one. In our last plus one, we talked about the three protocols. We're going to help you define and dominate in our heroic elite training. We have the bubble wrap where you live in a perfectly hermetically sealed container and everything goes perfectly, which essentially never happens. We must have the wisdom to know that life is to be lived at elite levels, as out in the wild. We quit being foolish, which is the opposite of wise perfectionists, and embrace the constraints of reality. We take the time to craft a realistic yet demanding protocol. Then we have the discipline to dominate it. Then we have the paying the price protocol, where life is really happening and we need to hold on tight and do our best to control the controllables, knowing we're deliberately pushing ourselves. It's the integration of those three protocols that allows us to find our edge and give the world all we've got. Now, in our last plus one, I promised to share George Bernard Shaw's heroically elite wisdom. Here it is. He once said, this is the true joy in life. The being used for a purpose, recognized by yourself as a mighty one. The being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap. The being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. He continues by saying, I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die. For the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations. And that's today's plus one. Here's to activating our elite heroic potential and experiencing the true joy in life all day, every day, especially today. Little P.S. once again, join us for Heroic Elite. I am committed. We are committed to it being the absolute best, most creative, most impactful training program we've ever done. Learn more at Heroic US Elite or just click on the link in this +1.
