Brian Johnson on designing daily protocols that work even on your worst days. Start extremely small, simplify actions until they're achievable with low energy or hopelessness. The goal is preserving momentum and self-trust so core habits stick when you feel the least like doing them.

We need to know what a protocol is that you can run on your worst day. Start small. Create it in a way that you can win. This is mini habits, tiny habits, atomic habits. If you can't do it on the days you least feel like it, it's not the right protocol. Simplify it such that even when you don't feel like it, you can still get yourself to do it and you still may have depleted energy. You still may and inevitably will experience hopelessness, but it won't be with the psychological pain of feeling like you let yourself down and didn't work your protocol. You'd at least have the psychological confidence to know you did the things that you said you would do even when you didn't feel like it. We want to create it such that the momentum isn't lost and you are actually able to do the things that you do when you're at your best. When you feel the worst.
