Micro Class: Fruitsandvegetables

Brian Johnson argues fruits and vegetables shouldn't be grouped together because fruits are high in fructose while vegetables are low-sugar nutrient powerhouses. Dave Asprey limits fructose to 25 grams daily, about two apples, and lost roughly 100 pounds by cutting fruit. Johnson pitches his $10/month membership for micro classes and Philosopher's Notes summaries.

Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to another micro class.
This one's on fruits and vegetables.
It's inspired by the bulletproof diet by Dave Asprey.
Fruits and vegetables. That's one word. Fruits and vegetables. Dave Asprey tells us that we're told so often to eat fruit, fruits and vegetables that it's almost as if that phrase has become one word. He says we need to separate the two because fruits and vegetables are very, very different in their nutritional value for your body. He says they're about as different as fish and bicycles. It's about how much they have in common. And he also references the fact that a lot of people call fruit nature's candy. He says, actually, fruit is more like candy than it is vegetables. High sugar content via fructose vis a vis vegetables, which have a very low sugar content and a ton of nutritional value. Micronutrients. We want to pay attention to fruits and vegetables. Two very, very separate things. If you've been combining them like one word, see what you can do to separate them and focus on the vegetables which the next micro class.
But I just love this idea.
Fruits and vegetables, they're not the same. And he jokingly says, Dave Asprey does that if you have an apple, right? You know the common saying is one apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? He says, well, you know, you might want to modify that and say, three apples per day keeps the doctor well paid. Although almost everyone talks about fruits as if they're universally beneficial, leading research, or I should say cutting edge research, is showing that that's just not the case. It's not unequivocally awesome. Dave Asprey's approach is limit your fructose to 25 grams a day, which is about two apples, rather than go nuts on fruits, will reduce your cravings. And for him, he weighed 300 pounds. He was working really hard to try to lose this weight. And he thinks that one of the prime reasons why he struggled so much was he was eating a ton of fruit. When he released, let go of that, he let go of the weight, lost.
100 pounds or something crazy like that.
And fruits played a surprisingly large role in that.
So think about that.
If you're eating a ton of fruits, see what you can do to swap it over to the veggie side of things.
Hope you enjoyed.
And let's enjoy our fruits and vegetables.

It's a six page PDF where I basically share some of my favorite thoughts, riff on it, talk about how other teachers say the same things, and give you a nice playful kick in the butt to go out and apply the wisdom that is a philosopher's Note. I record that as an MP3 that you can download as well. And 250 of those, I produce 10 of those at least per month that I share with you in addition to the micro classes.
