Micro Class: Today's the Day!

Brian Johnson walks through an exercise from Todd Henry's Die Empty where you imagine someone writing a mini-book about your ideal day. It reveals which behaviors build self-respect and which ones chip away at it, one action at a time.

Hi, this is Brian.
Welcome back to another micro class.
This one's on Today's the day. One of my favorite exercises on creating.
Your ideal day that I've ever read. It is inspired by die empty Todd Henry philosopher's note.
Check it out. Here's the deal. Oftentimes we're asked, oh, hey, you know, if today was your last day on earth, what would you do? And that's an interesting question, but it's not really that helpful. Todd tells us. Here's a much more interesting question to ask. Imagine if today was the day that someone's going to show up and they're going to watch you live your day. They're going to have a little notebook, a little pen in their hand, and they're going to observe every single thing.
That you do today.
Then they're going to take their notes, they're going to spend a few days and they're going to write a little mini book that's going to capture who you are. They're going to interpret every single thing.
That you did in that day from.
The moment you woke up until the moment you went to sleep. And they're going to say, well, that just must be who this person is. I'm going to write a book that's going to capture the essence of their life off of my experience watching them for this day.
That's amazing.
And it begs the question, alright, what.
Are you currently doing.
That you are proud of and that you'd like to.
Have in this book?
You'd like to see more of it. What are you not proud of? And in fact, if you saw, if this person saw you doing these things, you'd be a little embarrassed and you would be just disappointed that people would think that this was an example of your ultimate essence and what your life.
Was all about, Right?
So make this list. These are the things you'd like to do more of. You'd like to spend more time with your family, you'd like to take out of care of yourself.
You'd like to be present and attuned.
During your day, right? What are all these little things? Maybe you create some time blocks. You can really create masterpiece stuff that you'd be proud of.
And these are the things you're not.
Proud of and create your masterpiece day. This is a really cool way to get the elements that would be part of this type of day. Today is the day. Once we figure out this ideal, now is the time to live it. If we want to die empty, we've got to get serious about this. Stuff. Identify this, identify this, do more of this, less of this.
Not particularly complicated and you have a masterpiece day. Hope you enjoyed.
Hope you take some time to figure out what this looks like and then.
Imagine when you're going through your day.
And you're about ready to do something. Imagine being observed by this individual who's going to document you. And then remember the fact that you are always being observed. You always have this little person up here watching you.
And guess what?
That is you. As Abraham Maslow says, every single thing that we do registers in our unconscious and if you consistently do things that you're not proud of, that registers. It has an effect. And your self respect, your self esteem, your ability to get yourself to do.
The things you want to do in.
The future is diminished. We're either stepping forward into growth or back into safety and someone is always paying attention. So let's choose wisely. We don't need to be perfect, of course, but have fun dialing it in a little bit more day in and day out.
Hope you enjoyed. I look forward to sharing more with you soon. Have another awesome day.
See you.
Hey guys, this is Brian. A lot of people don't know what I do beyond these YouTube videos I put up, so I thought I'd give you a quick tour of our membership platform. Thousands of people have joined us already. 10 bucks a month get access to a ton of stuff that's in addition to what I put up on YouTube for free. So the basic idea is you just watched a micro class. Hope you enjoyed that.
I share.
I just started doing these micro classes, but I Now share over 50 of these per month. We've shared dozens so far and it's basically a quick class on my absolute favorite stuff across the different domains of optimal living. Two to three maybe five minute little micro classes on how to optimize your life. In addition to that, you get access to every single one of our Philosopher's notes. We now have over 250 philosophers notes on some really, really good books. A lot of them in each one of them. You familiar with the PNTV videos if you've watched many of those. But we also have PDFs and MP3s of our Philosopher's notes. So here's let's take a look at what a PDF looks like. This is an example of a Philosopher's note. It's a six page PDF where I basically share some of my favorite thoughts, riff on it, talk about how other teachers say the same things, and give you a nice playful kick in the butt to go out and apply the wisdom that is a philosopher's note. I record that as an MP3 that you can download as well. And 250 of those, I produce 10 of those at least per month that I share with you. In addition to the micro classes. And then you also get access to all of our old classes. We have the five day immersion reboot habits 101, confidence 101, getting stuff done 101, meditation 101, then future classes including relationships 101, energy 101, purpose 101, biz 101, goals 101, etc. So there you go. Really blessed to have some extraordinary support and I will share with you where you go to sign up. I'll put a link to this, but basically cruise on over here. You can sign up. And this is the kind of response we've gotten so far from our members.
It's pretty neat.
I've made more positive changes in my life, my brief membership, only three months so far, than I did through years of counseling. Yes. Brian Johnson, you are a rock star. Thank you very much. That's very kind of you. And I'm making huge strides in optimizing my life. As a result of your philosopher's notes and optimal living classes. I spend $19 a month on my gym membership to take care of my body. A mere $10 a month on an optimal living membership is the biggest value invest investment I've ever made in my emotional, mental and spiritual health. Thank you for the incredible work you're doing to inspire us to be rock stars in our own lives. Unbelievably inspiring and humbling. In 24 hours, we received hundreds of extraordinary notes from members around the world. So there you go. That's a quick look at what we're up to. 10 bucks a month. Hope to astonish you. There you go.
