Mistakes are just mis-takes. Be willing to make them!

Brian Johnson argues mistakes are just mis-takes, chances to try again. View failure as an experiment, not a judgment of your worth. Maslow, Emerson, and Tal Ben-Shahar all saw growth this way.

Hey, guys, what's up? This is Brian with another optimal living 101 video. We're going to spend the next couple of weeks talking about action, taking impeccable action in the direction of our goals. As I prepare for my action class in optimal living 101 at the end of the month, and as I'm committed to helping you, whether you take that class or not, achieve your goals for 2013 and beyond. So here's a big idea on taking action. Mistakes are just mistakes. Mistakes are just mistakes. We've got to be willing to make them. One of the things that holds us back as we go out and go for our dreams and our goals is we're afraid of making mistakes. And that often inhibits us doing anything at all. We procrastinate because we're afraid of making mistakes. Well, let's take a different approach. Let's see mistakes as mistakes. Now imagine that you're filming a great movie, and this movie is the movie of your life. Now, when you go watch your favorite movie, do you think that they shot that movie in one long, perfect take, Never had to press pause or redo a scene or anything like that? It was just perfect. From beginning all the way till the end, two hours later, not one edit. That's insane. We know that they worked hard on it. If they made a mistake, it was just a mistake. Not a big deal. They did a second take. Maybe they did a third or a fourth. They did whatever it took to get to the point where they had this great film. Well, view your life the same way. You're filming a great movie. That is your life. And you need to retake again and again and again when necessary. If you make a mistake, that's a huge attitude shift. You make that one shift in your life and you just went from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. And I want to encourage us again and again and again to adopt the growth mindset, where we see everything as an opportunity to learn and to grow, rather than its opposite, the fixed mindset, where everything is a measure of our worth. It's a horrible place to live. If you make a mistake and you think you have a fixed mindset and you think that that must mean that you're an idiot, well, guess what? You're not going to do much because you're afraid of being seen as an idiot because you have a fixed mindset. If you have a growth mindset, you have a totally different orientation. You approach mistakes this way. So, Abraham Maslow, some more wisdom to help us get this point home. Abraham Maslow tells us there are no perfect human beings. There are great human beings, but there are no perfect human beings. Some of the people we admire most have flaws. They all do actually. Not some all. We are not going to be the first perfect human being. Let's relax, let go of that idea. Millman tells us there are no enlightened people, just more or less enlightened moments. We want to string those moments together. Emerson tells us all life is an experiment. The more experiments, the better. We want to fail more. Tall Ben Shohar tells us, fail more. Yeah, fail more. That's how you're going to learn. If you make your life an experiment, the more experiments, the better. You're just getting data that you can use to adjust your behavior to be more on so we can talk about this for a weekend. We'll talk about it more in other videos and in the classes and all that good stuff. But there you go. Mistakes are not a big deal. They're just mistakes. Be willing to make them. See how in your life you might have the fixed oh my God, if anything ever goes wrong, I'm an idiot mindset. And how can you have the I'm looking at how I can grow moment to moment to moment growth mindset? That's where you want to play. This is one way to get there. Hope you enjoyed. Look forward to sharing more with you soon. I'll put a link below to the Action class as well as the monthly Optimizer program.
