Brian Johnson argues that stability comes from building an architecture of routine behaviors: eating, moving, sleeping, breathing, focusing. Do these reliably even when unmotivated, and over time your baseline rises, making both your highs and lows higher.
Chapters
We want to build the architecture for our lives, doing things that we have the most control over. So things, again, like eating, moving, sleeping, breathing, focusing, may not seem like they are the things that drive your psychology. But to put it directly, they are way more than we think. So what I want to encourage you to consider is finding the things that you do when you are plugged in. And then we do those things, especially when we don't feel like doing them. And if we can create that algorithm, we will systematically, over an extended period of time, fundamentally and permanently change your life. You're still going to have highs and lows, but your highs will get higher and your lows will get higher, and you'll get to a point where you have a level of stability that allows you to enjoy life more.
