Brian Johnson argues that elite performance isn't reserved for the privileged few. He cites Paulo Coelho's idea that all people are manifestations of divinity, and says heroism exists in ordinary people, not just famous performers.

Paulo Coelho has a great line in one of his books called Confessions of a Pilgrim. I learned the most important lesson of my life, that the extraordinary is not the birthright of a chosen and privileged few. But of all people, even the humblest, that is my one certainty. We are all the manifestation of the divinity of God. When I'm sharing wisdom from and about elite performers in sports and or the military, I'm sharing it for you. I don't care who you are or what you do. From my vantage point, you are an elite performer, period. And I mean it when I say in the faces of men and women I see heroes. Which is why I get a little annoyed when we get feedback telling me that I talk about elite performers so much and that some people don't see themselves in their stories. First of all, we're heroic, not mediocre. And I repeat playfully, I'm sharing that wisdom from elite performers and about elite performance for you.
