A short conversational excerpt in which one speaker describes being "disciplined out of dysfunction": using deliberate structure and routines as a counterbalance to destructive thought patterns, overwhelm, and spirals of self-doubt. Discipline is framed as necessary to anchor spiritual practices and productive flow.
I see you as a person who is extremely disciplined. You would agree with that, right?
I think I'm disciplined out of my dysfunction. And what I mean by that is I know how quickly I can slide into certain destructive thought patterns. And so I've had to put a lot of discipline in my life as a counterbalance to the way that I drift. You know, I almost have to like put a lot of loaded weight on my life in terms of structure or I'll just slide all over the place.
Yeah.
Whether that's mentally or whether that's, you know, a lot of times I can get into a spiral of self doubt or this is another thing that happens to me. I just get overwhelmed. And if I don't have some things to anchor me to know, hey, these are the spots where I'm going to be able to meet with God or these are the spots where I'm going to be able to get in a good flow. It's not going to happen.
