YouTube cooking video (Cooking with Holly & Abbey) showing Abbey and a second speaker making a two-layer strawberry cake for Abbey's 11th birthday. They prepare a strawberry puree (one cup), mix it with four eggs, about a cup of vegetable oil, half a cup buttermilk plus a splash of milk, and a box of white cake mix (3 oz noted). They bake layers at 325°F for 30 minutes, make icing with butter, a jar of strawberry jam (the recipe called for 1/2 cup but they used a full jar), and vanilla, add optional pink food coloring, then cool and freeze layers (~30 minutes) before assembling and decorating. Get out of the way. Okay. Oh, hello.
I'm inimitable. I'm an original one. Hey, everyone. Hi, everyone, and welcome for another cooking with Abby.
Why is it just cooking with you?
Five minutes.
This weekend, we are celebrating something very special. Celebrating Abby's birthday.
Yay. But by the time this comes out.
Abby will be 11. And so Abby has requested a strawberry two layered strawberry cake. And I got this recipe from tasteoflizzy.com and it is amazing. We're gonna. We have to make a strawberry puree. So actually, have you washed your hands?
If you have been here before, you remember our strawberry jam video, right? You can use that homemade strawberry jam if you would like.
Oh, yeah, the sugar free jam that we. That we made.
Now also, do you guys remember my strawberry chopping tactics from that video?
Hoya. Also, I think before we proceed, we should your hair back. So we don't get hair in the cake. We have to have one cup of puree. All right, so we're gonna here. While Abby's doing the strawberries, we're gonna do four eggs.
Wait, you can do the strawberries, and I'll do the half a cup of milk using buttermilk, half a cup of buttermilk, and a splash of regular milk to thin it out.
All right, I'm gonna see what this adds up to.
I should probably do more than that. Little sip. Three, four. A cup of veggie oil. Does that take two thirds? I didn't like ten bucks.
Now we're gonna add a box of white cake mix. 3 ounces.
I'm not sure how I'm supposed to eat.
So we're gonna do our strawberry. Oh, no, Abby, we forgot to preheat the oven. Now we're gonna pour it in. Half of the batter in. That is yummy. Don't take it from me. These are going in the oven 325 for 30 minutes. Cake's in the oven. And now we're gonna make the icing. 3 sticks of recipe calls for half a cup of jam. We're gonna put a whole jar in.
Yeah.
Two teaspoons of vanilla.
Two teaspoons of vanilla extract.
So when you're making icing, it's just important that you go a little bit at a time. So I pour the whole cup.
I wonder if anyone.
Then I only put a little bit at a time, which is four. Now Abby wants to add food coloring to ours. You don't have to add food coloring to it. You can leave it. But Abby wants hers to be pink. Pink. So we're gonna put some food coloring. This is delicious. Our icing is done. Now we just have to wait for the cakes to come out of the oven. Once the cakes are cool, I'm going to put them in the freezer for about 30 minutes so that it's easier to ice the cake. Well, we're back. It's been several hours.
Multiple hours.
So here are our layers of cake. We've got our beautiful. Got our beautiful pink icing. And we're going to just start off with a nice layer in the middle.
I don't know what I'm doing here.
Okay, my turn. All right, now we're ready for our second layer.
Ciao, ciao, ciao.
I'm gonna start spreading. I put a big, thick layer on top because I'm just gonna use it to spill over.
Okay.
Here's our cake. So pretty. Since we are.
Taking it.
Taking it.
I'm gonna put our little cakes and yarn cake.
