Holly Furtick presents a short, motivational YouTube talk arguing that the key to a happier marriage is focusing on changing yourself rather than trying to change your spouse. She explains that blaming a partner feels comforting but prevents personal growth, and promises that when one person changes, the relationship improves; the video closes with encouragement and a subscribe call-to-action.

What if I could guarantee you that you could have a stronger, happier marriage without your husband ever changing a thing? See, the key to a happy marriage is not a perfect husband. The key to a happy marriage is not necessarily couples therapy. Now, don't get me wrong. Couples therapy is amazing, and it is helpful. But there are things that you can can do to have a better relationship with the man that you love. Now, this might not seem very exciting to you, even though I think it's exciting because it's so much more fun. And I do agree it is so much more fun to think about all of the things that our husbands could do to make our relationship better. If he would be more patient, if he would be more involved, if he would be more affectionate, if he would listen to me or pay better attention to my needs, if he would help out more around the house or do all of the things that I wish that he would do, we would probably be a model couple. Isn't it funny how blame feels good? It's like a comforting blanket. Because as long as I keep my focus on my husband and the work that he needs to do, I never have to face myself. The problem is that as long as I focus on my husband and the things that I want him to do differently, I will always feel frustrated. And I will probably not experience change or change to the level that I could be experiencing it. Because at the end of the day, no matter how much I beg, plead, nag, or even manipulate my husband, the only person that I can really, truly change is me. But this is the great part. And I can promise you that this is true. When I change me, I change us. It's time for us to roll up our sleeves and to get to work. Because a good marriage is not something that you find. It's not something that you stumble on. It's not good good luck or that you married the wrong person. A good marriage is something that you make. And anything worth having in life requires work, right? If you want to grow your own vegetables or if you want to have a beautiful yard, you're going to have to work at it. If you want to remodel your kitchen, it's going to require work, or at least extra hours at work to pay someone else to do it. Anything worth having in life takes work. Hey, thanks for watching. I hope that that encouraged you today. Make sure that you subscribe so that you don't miss out on other videos like this, and I'll see you back here next time.
