Whether you're dealing with everyday ailments such as coughs, colds, strains and sprains, sore throats, or just seeking to enhance your health and well-being, this podcast is your guide. So let's dive in and discover the transformative power of homeopathy in your everyday life.
So I've had mothers come in who've just never been well since childbirth. So let's go through postpartum. So postpartum or postnatal begins immediately after childbirth as a mother's body, including hormone levels, uterus size, returns to a non pregnant state. And this term of postpartum is normally around six weeks after following childbirth. So the first remedy, I'm going to cover eight remedies, but this is the first remedy I want to cover is Arnica. Arnica Montana. Now this is the number one remedy for shock and for trauma. Okay, this is a shock and trauma remedy. And I would often say just give it routinely after birth. And for the mother, you could also give it to the child as well, the baby, especially if it's been a traumatic birth. But often people in edema, they will say they feel soreness And this soreness comes all around the body. This soreness, it comes from physical exertion. If you've ever been present at a birth or having given birth, it is a very, very extremely physical, you know, a lot of it takes so much out of the body. And so there can be muscle strain of the labor and the birth. And what people often tend to feel is beaten up. They feel like they've been beaten up or bruised all over and can have a great fear if anybody are coming close to them or touching them because they feel so sore. Often they can't rest, so they'll be very restless in bed. And they often will say the bed feels too hard or the pillow feels too hard. They just can't get comfortable. And it's a really good remedy after use after forceps, ventouse, pessary, or C-section. Okay, so it's a remedy you'll see used very, very often. And as I said, the number one remedy for shock or for trauma. So the next remedy is Belladonna perennis, which is the common daisy. Now, this is very similar to Arnica. so it has bruising to the soft tissues. And it's often good to follow on after you've given Arnica. So give Arnica first and you may, the next day the bruising is sort of like 80% better. You may need to follow with Bellis perennis, okay? And again, the muscles feel sore, they feel bruised and it's trauma to often to deeper tissues internally. Now that could be after a C-section, for example, where the soreness of the abdominal walls, because obviously the C-section is cut through that. So a sore bruise feeling in the pelvic area after childbirth, and often the worse for hot bath, worse for touch, better for cold applications and better for movement. So the better if they move around. So just always remember this remedy for soft tissues. Now the next remedy we're gonna look at is calendula. So used is used for the treatment of wounds, whether it's incisions, surgery, and it really promotes healing. And often with the pains with calendula is sharp, stinging pains, cutting pains with a sense of sensation of rawness. and often the pain can be out of proportion to the injury, to the cut or to the wound. Very painful. It's a good remedy for exhaustion from blood loss of blood. So say during the birth, there was a lot of blood loss or excessive pain. Okay, so they have exhaustion and it restores vitality to the injured part and prevents infection. So it's like a homeopathic antiseptic. So you can take it again in homeopathic potency or you can be used as an ointment. So you can put ointment onto the wound directly and it often will prevent scarlet scarring. But it is amazing if you're ever use calendula, it's an incredible healer of wounds. And like I said, it's also antiseptic. Many, many, many uses. The next remedy we're going to look at is Hypericum. So this is the number one remedy for areas rich with nerves. Okay? Rich with nerves, especially around the, like, for example, the perineum. And here the pains are very intense and shoot along the nerve pathways. And it's excellent again for healing. If somebody's had an episiotomy, the wound from that, or any vaginal tears through the birth. so again, good for pain in the sacral area, sacrum or the coccyx after epidural or forceps delivery. Okay, so any trauma around to the back or feeling it on the back, I said in the sacrum or the coccyx after epidural forceps delivery, then hypericum is a great remedy. And again, you can alternate it with Arnica. So a lot of these remedies you can alternate with Arnica. Okay, but hypericum, fantastic remedy. Remember any area which is rich with nerves. Okay. Next remedy, Ignatia. Now this is much more of an emotional, mental and emotional remedy, especially from disappointment and grief. So often people who need Ignatia, they'll be very disappointed how their birth went. Say, for example, they had this lovely birth planned, you know, natural birth, water birth, or, you know, beautiful, and, you know, how it was going to be. And then it ends up an emergency C-section at the local hospital. So their expectations, they had very high expectations of themselves. They may think they were disappointed. They thought they could have gone better or that they could have been stronger. So it doesn't go the way that it was planned. So they can get very distressed, very tearful, distressed, unhappy, highly emotional, without bursts of sobbing. Or they can go alternate the other way and be quite controlled, trying to keep it all in. But there's that keynote for Ignatia. When we've talked about keynotes before, it's like if you played a song, you have those notes. If you play three notes, you'd recognize what song it is. Where keynote for Ignatia is this sighing. The sighing, keynote for Ignatia. And what's happening is they're trying to suppress their grief. They're trying to suppress it. So we can alternate. from sobbing and being very, very upset to more controlled, where they're trying to keep it all in. But often, if they do that, often can have a sensation as like a lump in the throat. And they feel like, you know, they can feel it like a lump in the throat that they'll swallow. And often they can have insomnia. They can't sleep after the birth. But it's all coming from that mental and emotional disappointment and grief that the birth did not turn out the way they wanted it. Fight or lacker. Now, again, this remedy, you won't find this probably in a remedy kit. You'll get this from homeopathic pharmacy or from your local health food store. Fight or lacker again, homeopathic potency. this is a remedy for mastitis. So this is where they have great pains when they're trying to breastfeed, nursing. And they describe the pain like electric shocks, like an electric shock pain. And often the breasts are hot, painful and congested, painful and congested with heavy heaviness, stony, hard breasts, swollen, very, very tender. Can often be worse in the left breast, where the pain, if they get them, go from the nipple and radiates to the whole body. goes to the nipple, goes to the whole body. It's also a great remedy for cracks in the nipple. So there's any cracks in the nipple, again, very sensitive, very painful. Phytolacca is a great remedy for that. Or whether milk is thick and scanty. And with Phytolacca, often they'll be worse for cold, damp weather or rain, and they're better for warmth. So this is the number one remedies for mastitis. There's other remedies that you can take, but this is a really good remedy, Phytolacca. often people don't really know this remedy. It's not a common known remedy, but it's a very, very good remedy. Big glandular remedy. The next remedy is sepia. So sepia is made from the ink from the cuttlefish. And what it does, it sprays the ink into the water to deflect the male, the other male fish from coming near them. Okay. So sepia is a really good remedy after a long and prolonged and protracted labor. Often there could be a lot of medical intervention that's occurred. But they are exhausted. The keynote for sepia is exhaustion. They feel exhausted and worn out. And they're angry. They can be irritable with you or anybody around them. But they have the feelings that they have is there's too much to do and no time to do it in. So there's gone through this really exhausting birth, maybe even an exhausting pregnancy. And now there's so much to do. The baby arrives and there's so much to do, but they just don't seem to have the time to do it all or get it to, you know, get any sort of rhythm going. and this is one of the most important remedies in the prevention of postnatal depression. So this is why it's a really good remedy to be given early after birth, which can be a good prevention from that. And again, many, many people have used this. And again, as I said earlier on, when I ran a mother and baby clinic for many years, these remedies are just, can just change, the game changes people's lives. And Sepia can go into a chronic state like this, which can last for years and years. But if you can get it in that acute state after birth, then you can change things and it helped bring vitality back into the system. So often with CP, they have an aversion to their baby. So there'll be problems bonding with the baby. They'll feel like numb to the baby. They can't bond, but also an aversion to loved ones, aversion to loved ones. It's like, they don't want anybody or family around them. I said irritable with it as well and a bit angry. Got no desire maybe to breastfeed or look after the baby. And they can have this bear, often a bearing down sensation in the uterus. Like it was called a bearing down or a dragging. sensation after the birth. And as I said earlier, this is a remedy for never being well since childbirth. Often you see it when they've had one, you know, many children. And basically the vital force is just depleted. They're just depleted from the child or from having all the children. So it's a great, great remedy, sepia. And interesting thing with sepia, they feel better if they move around. It's actually sepia is better for dancing. Not that you're going to be doing much dancing after childbirth, but it's a remedy that's better for movement because there's quite a lot of stagnant, this state stasis within sepia. so why it's a good remedy for varicose veins or for hemorrhoids piles, because there's sort of like stagnation within the system. Again, we've looked at a lot of these keynotes here, exhaustion, worn out, anguinal, irritable, aversion to the baby or aversion to loved ones. They find it difficult to bond with the baby. So the next remedy, staphysagria. So this is a really, really good remedy after any surgical intervention, especially like a C-section, again, episiotomy. and here the cuts and wounds are, which are lacerated and very painful. Now they're very sensitive to touch and the pains will remain after the surgery. Very, very painful. And this is particularly good if the intervention has been felt invasive or, and upsetting. So often this is a remedy where person can even feel violated in some way. So it's a remedy that is used for areas where, of sensitive areas. And if, if there's a sense of there's been too much intervention or especially medical intervention or surgery, then the body the body can feel violated or they can feel violated themselves. And it's very upsetting. And often there's feelings of anger with Staphylococcus aureus, indignation, and sometimes feeling of humiliation. They feel humiliated in some way. So these feelings often around this whole episode of what's happened within the childbirth, they may felt like they weren't listened to and it causes this Staphylococcus aureus state. And often the suppression of anger as well, but they can be very nice and very sweet and very nice, but actually underneath it, they can be seething, okay? They can be seething. So it's a really big remedy. like I said, for C-sections, anywhere there's surgery, anywhere there's cutting lacerations, where it's painful. And again, you can alternate it with Arnica.
All these remedies you can alternate with Arnica, which will help. Thank you so much for joining me today on the Homeopathy at Home podcast. I hope you found today's episode enlightening.
