When I think about the transformative power of hearing aids, one story comes to mind. I had a patient I had seen for a couple years, and she said, "I wish my sister could hear as well as I do." And she said, "Well, she actually was told nothing can be done about her hearing by someone else, and she's also blind, so I get really, really sad because she's kind of isolated from everything that we do together." And I said, "Well, bring her in and let's take a look." So she came in with her husband and we tested her, and ultimately she did not have usable hearing in one ear, but she did have very edible hearing in her other ear. She sat there and I put the hearing aid in and her husband said, "Hey honey," and everybody started to cry. And then he got down on the floor, kneeling in front of her and said, "You gave me my wife back." It was one of the most amazing days, one of those cry-worthy moments that was just so incredible on what hearing aids really can do.
