Real estate was made for us (Minisode)
1 Nov 2022 · 12 min
In this mini‑episode of The Real Estate Investor Show, hosts Liz and Andresa Guidelli discuss why real estate investing aligns naturally with women’s strengths. After brief sponsor messages for Rent to Retirement and Steadily.com, Andresa outlines five key attributes women bring to the industry: big‑picture thinking, high levels of education and continuous learning, strong empathy in negotiations, resourcefulness (both financial and collaborative), and transferable skills from personal and professional life such as project management and sales. She shares a personal anecdote about door‑to‑door sales that taught resilience to rejection, and Liz adds her own experience with consultative, relationship‑driven sales. The episode closes with a promotion for InvestorCon 2023 (generational‑wealth theme), a call to subscribe to the show’s website, and a request for listeners to share and rate the podcast. The overall tone is conversational, empowering, and enthusiastic, aiming to inspire women to recognize and leverage their innate abilities in real‑estate investing.

All right, Liz. So here's what I'm going to break down. There's several reasons what I believe real estate was made for us women, but I'm going to be sharing with all of you just 4 or 5, or maybe 5, because here's what I think. Okay. Many women, many investors that are looking to take their business to the next level or have had successful careers that are looking to jump into real estate right now. Or diversify their investment and benefit from investing in real estate have the feeling or impression that this might not be for them, that this industry, which is undeniable, male-dominated so far, 2022, so far, this is what's happening. So if you're listening a couple of years from now and you don't understand what I'm talking about, we're in 2022. Okay? So, The reasons for it is because I don't think we are acknowledging or we are aware of everything we bring to the table and everything that we have to offer that really matches what this industry requires. So let me share a couple of my thoughts, right? Bigger picture. Women, to our detriment or benefit, depends how you look at things. We don't look at certain subject by itself. We make several connections. We are looking at a much bigger picture when we are looking at a project or what I say, a complicated situation. We look to understand what is beyond what's happening with this property, with this seller that's having issues with the freaking family that don't want to sell, want to sell. What can we do over here? We were raised to think about the bigger picture and connect the dots in different areas. So just taking a step back and looking at each project with creativity, it's amazing. And we are able to find solutions and ways to get the job done in a way that it looks so simple. But it's not. And I want you guys to really fully understand that it's not ordinary. Number 2, education. I believe for several reasons, and one of them is to prove ourselves. We have educated ourselves to a completely another level under the radar. Many of us have multiple degrees, master's degrees, doctorate degrees. Certifications, and we consume the amount of consumption of content in terms of books, podcasts, market analysis. I don't know any women in our community that would tell them, listen, I read this book and I highly recommend to you. You know what I see when I say that to them? They grab their freaking phone right away. They said, is this a title? I say yes. All right, purchase. They don't wait to consume that. They just go forward. But we are under the radar and we don't share all the information that we make. And many times people say, oh, they're taking too long to make that decision. It's not because we are having a lot of evaluations happening because we want to look at the data. We want to look at the micro and the larger economy in order to make a wise decision for a long term, not short term. So highly educated. Empathy. There isn't empathy everywhere. We are just seeing many times that negotiations is a matter of who's going to win, who's going to get the most of the money. And I have experienced throughout my career that many times it's not about the money. Many times the seller just wants Empathy to the situation. How many times letters to the seller, a conversation, a side conversation with the seller made the deal gone through? The seller didn't really care about the money. It was about how easy was the process, how likable was the buyer, how easy was the entire experience. For them. And I think we're really, really high empathetic people. And we can see it. We can see what people are saying and we can see what they're not saying by observing their body language. We have that sixth sense there, the gut feeling that we underestimate that a lot. And I usually use my more than ever, right? So I encourage you to observe that too. The next one I would say, Liz, is resourceful. We are very, very resourceful in both ways. And I think we are in a transition right now. What I've seen in the past is women being very, very resourceful with the limited number of funds that we had in our hands. We truly multiply the funds. What I am seeing right now is a different type of resourcefulness. Before, I'm seeing a lot of women trying to figure out by themselves, a lot of solopreneurship. What I'm seeing now is a transition where women are being resourceful because now she understands that she does not need to know everything. She can leverage the resource and experience of other women. And reach out to ask for help. That is resourcefulness to me, to the highest level. Women are comfortable asking questions, are comfortable asking for help. When I say comfortable, let me make just a pause here. They don't feel comfortable. Nobody feels comfortable when they're doing something that they haven't done several times before, but they are daring to do it regardless. They're daring to raise their hand. They're changing it. They're following it. They're there. They're in the arena playing. And that's what really matters. And the last thing that I would say is transferable skills. When I say that, I'm talking about from your personal and from your professional life. When you look at your personal life, right? Many busy moms or larger families, you understand project management to the highest, scheduling to the highest, pivot here, pivot there to the highest level, right? All of this, I don't want you guys to underestimate. I don't want nurses to underestimate what they bring to the table to the real estate industry and many other careers that I truly think that bring so much in terms of skill sets to the real estate industry that many times we are lacking in certain conversations.
What's been your biggest transferable skill? Not that I'm interviewing you, but I'm curious because I want to share mine to give women a really specific example too, because it helps. What's been yours?
Here's what I think. I have gone through door-to-door sales, right? You probably already heard me speaking about this. One of the hardest things for me to hear nos in my face and get over that much quicker. And I think that learning that no means next, and it's not personal to me, they're not saying no to me, they're saying no to the product that I'm selling. It made me just see properties as the same thing. So I can go through several properties, Okay, no, no, now next. And I keep going to it. I don't carry those properties that the sellers are saying no to me throughout my next conversation. And that happened. I learned that through door-to-door sales because if my first client said no to me and my attitude changed at that moment, my entire day was ruined. I needed to shake it off. After that. I believe that I transfer that to real estate as well.
Hmm. That's great.
How about you? You wanna share very quick?
Yeah, real quick. I would say it's funny, it's very similar in terms of the sales arena, but it's actually not door-to-door, it's more consultative sales, relationship-driven sales. So being able to like cold call, but then really, really develop a long-term relationship with a company and how you do that and You know, just really developing that skillset and that way of being, if you will. And then getting referrals and kind of developing it from an organic way was something I did for over a decade. And that was very transferable. And in some of the things we've been doing with growing our community and some of the places that I feel like I shine and, and I really like to do to cultivate, if you will, more consultative.
