What's really perplexing is how the White House can ignore boys as thoroughly and utterly as they do. They need to understand that the worst sexism of all is believing that only one sex is ever harmed by sexism. But a website is not going to be enough. Maybe a good video especially if it catches on and goes viral, can help get their attention. Those pictures of demonstrators with their signs look like they were taken right in front of the White House, but they were taken in front of a green screen. Here's how you can make your own and join the virtual demonstration against gender bias in the White House with $5 and a smartphone. You're going to make your own green screen out of 5 pieces of poster board. Place the top of the first one on a wall a little above the top of your head. Place the wider edge horizontally because you need to fit entirely in front of the poster side to side. Then work your way down with the other 4 posters, overlap the seams a little, and tape the seams with clear tape so there are no dark shadows where the posters meet. Be sure to include enough poster on the floor so you can stand a few inches from the wall. This is what it should look like. Don't stress too much about lighting, but try not to have any sharp dark shadows on the green posters behind you when your picture is taken. We used bright green posters here, but this darker green color is fine and so is blue. Then when you've got your picture, go to the White House Gender Bias website and select the Virtual Demonstration tab. You'll find the upload form there. After you send your picture, keep an eye out for an email asking you to confirm your address. When we have enough pictures to make a good video, we'll let you know when it's published. And let's shoot for something even more powerful in the fall of 2021. Right now, the area around the White House is closed off. No demonstrations are allowed. But it might open up again in the fall.
