Getting back into the office

James Blackwell weighs the comfort of remote work against the office's team momentum and culture. He outlines Ronald James recruitment agency's ten core values, from family culture and high standards to transparency and over-delivering to customers, and shares how to ease back into office work gradually while adapting your business model.
Hello, everybody. And today I am back in the office. We've got a couple of stuff in today. It's still empty, as you can see, so most people working from home, but I've spent this time trying to get back in a little routine in the office of the time, still working from home, which I've really enjoyed, the setup and the environment. But there's nothing that beats the office in terms of just the momentum, the environment and getting the buzz back for the culture of the team. So we're going to try and ease things in, obviously taking all of the legal advice that we need to and government advice to make sure that the office is clean. There's certain distance and measures in place. But, yeah, I think everyone's a bit fed up now and wants to just get back to, like I said, some sort of normality. So what are you doing to get yourself geared back up, to get back into work, whether that is still working from home? Have you got the right environment to do that? I was actually working out, had some beanbags, I've just brought them in. But we're working out outside because it was lovely, lovely weather. So it was just been working outside in the sun, which is one of the key perks, I suppose, of having your own building is I want to try and create out the back of here like a nice little sun trap, so you can sit out and work along with the WI fi works outside here as well. So it's always nice to get a bit of sunshine, get a bit of vitamin D rays and. Yeah, so I just thought I would. It's just a quick video, really, in terms of getting back into the office environment, making sure that we're getting into the routine again, really enjoying work even in these testing times, even though business has changed and adapted. Have you changed and adapted? Because in these times it's those most adaptable to change that will survive. So are you productizing your services? Are you thinking of different ways, different values that you can add to your clients? Opposed to just sending a CV or a candidate? What else can you bolt onto your recruitment agency to make sure that you have that unfair advantage in the market? Just a reminder here of the Ronald James principles. So our problem is recruitment agencies are stuck in the old model, which is something I teach in my Recruitment Accelerator foundation program. Our mission is to be the most innovative and cutting edge recruitment marketing agency in the UK and we've got 10 principles. The first one is we are family, so we look out for each other like brothers and sisters. Second, we stay laser focused. So I'm a big believer in laser focus. You say the Warren Buffetts, the Bill Gates, they all say laser focus is the number one attribute to being a billionaire. High standards great just isn't good enough. Always about elevating the standards because we are the average of the standards that we set ourselves. So you always want to keep raising up off leaning lean and grow, learning grow. Sorry. So learning every day to be 1% better than yesterday. Lean and frugal. So constraints breed resourcefulness. Go more, do more with less. Which is isn't couldn't be a better time than now being lean and frugal. So we've had this on the wall for what, the last year, 18 months. So we've always went with that mindset. Self driven, just do it full transparency. So we always try and be brutally honest and transparent with everyone in the workplace over deliver to our customers. Finally, don't be a dick. Be conscientious in every action that you take. So we have those principles 10 principles of the agency which again I think is very important to set the foundations right from the start, making sure that everyone understands where they are and where the business is. Especially if you want to build a self managing agency where you're not having to have constant meetings, constant KPIs to hit you trust the work of your team to do the work that they set. So hope you enjoyed the video like and subscribe below. I'm going to start doing more videos back in the office as and when we move fully back in, but I have really enjoyed working from home to be honest. But it's good just to try and ease in instead of going all the way from home, working straight into the office, just doing it over gradual steps.
