My Daily Routine for Peak Energy & Focus (Golf, Business & Life)

James Blackwell narrates a day that mixes golf, conversation, and practical advice for entrepreneurs on sustaining peak energy and focus. Key themes: single-minded focus (avoid shiny-object syndrome), environment and input control, sleep/meditation/acupuncture/exercise for energy management, delegation and systems to scale, and a recent launch of an AI service for recruitment agencies. The video also shows golf as a form of relaxation, networking, and reflection, including light competitive banter with a friend, John.
Hello, ladies and gentlemen, James Blackwall here. So in today's video it's slightly different. I'm traveling at the moment, so I'm just on my way to play golf with a friend, John. So I'm actually playing at where the Badgers, Jumeirah Golf Estates. So really good golf course over there and I always try and do that on a Monday. So I think I've mentioned in the past about how important it is to take some time off and reflect, but on this video I'm going to be talking around how to stay focused and really productive as an entrepreneur, especially if you want to scale to a figures. And obviously one of the biggest things that really kill productivity is going to be distractions. So like being busy is not the same as being productive. And a lot of people, and especially entrepreneurs get stuck in this shiny object syndrome, chasing too many ideas at once. I meet so many entrepreneurs, tell me how many different businesses they've got going or how many different business ideas or how they've got an idea for a SaaS software. So many things. And all I always think about is you need to just be really hyper focused on one thing. And that's one thing that I learned when I scaled my business, especially my education company and then the recruitment agencies. I was all in on those things for a good five, six years before we started to really see massive benefits in terms of very high profits and big success. And I think a lot of entrepreneurs now, especially in this more modern era, are really trying to sort of copy other people and trying to shortcut that route to success as well. Well, so they see a lot of successful people on YouTube and different social media platforms and think they can just cut straight to the end result. But it requires a lot of the 10,000 hour rule basically of building up that muscle and building up that skill set on business. And I think a lot of people don't really realize that they need to go through that. So we talk a lot about in my past videos about energy mindset and how that really reflects in your environment that you're in and helping you really focus. So I know a lot of you have asked me about like how to get to different energy level states because if you're at a lower energy, your productivity levels are always going to be low. So that starts off with environment. I've mentioned many times about making sure your environment is stronger than your willpower because sometimes willpower fades. Well, it does fade every single day. So making sure that you're in a good environment with zero distractions. And probably more an inspirational environment to be in really going to help. And that's the same with the important of controlling your inputs. So what news that you put into your mind, the social media, the negative people that you're around. So whether it's friends or family members, whether it is you're following certain people on social media that you think really are they really where you want to be in life? So there's so much information, there's so many different, what we call influences out there. But I've met a lot of them and trust me, they don't always live up to the life that they truly try and portray online. So you always want to make sure you be careful what you wish for and be careful who your potential mentors are. Now a mentor doesn't have to be someone you always physically pay and you work with them one on one or in a group setting that could be just someone that you read a book about or you watch online. So always be careful about who you select as who you're going to be, the person that you're going to extract information from and always keep an eye out for that. And then the next part is like your, your sleep is going to be very important. Talked a lot about, obviously your sleep, like measuring your sleep score on a OURA ring is always a thing that I've done many times in the past, I'm not really wearing one now. I go through stages of like using it and not using it because for me meditation and mindfulness is always been my core focus. And that's the thing that really helps me with my energy flow. I think I mentioned in the last video. Acupuncture has been a really big thing for me now. And I'm actually going to be going there again this evening after I play golf. And that's going to be probably 90 minutes to 2 hour session of acupuncture. And that really gets you in a deeper meditation state and really calms your body. So one thing I've realized is you can have all of the money involved in the world, but if you don't have your health, you have nothing. You hear that time and time and time again and as you get richer you realize how important health actually is. And the health isn't just about eating healthy. It's going to be about managing your stress levels and your blood flow and your heart rate and all of these different things to make sure your body is fully functioning. So it's very important to do that. And one thing that I've started to do Right now again is getting back to having a structured day so I could be really hyper focused on the higher level tasks that I want to do. So at the minute, right now I've just launched a brand new program around AI and how you can do AI installs into companies to help them attract more talent. So specifically helping recruitment agencies scale by winning higher retainers and being that AI expert in those external companies because there's such a big shift, it's like a $13 trillion industry AI is going to be and there's a big shift in the full agency world on people taking advantage of coming in and teaching these clients how to implement AI into their business to streamline efficiencies and systems and everything. EL so I've been spending a lot of time blocking my day for maximum focus. So this is probably the first time in a long time where I've spent weekends and everything else really dialed in creating the product, launching the product. I mean we've had a really big launch with that just internally in our current clients where we have created this product and upsold them into it. And I'm really excited about delivering on that. And for the first time ever, I've actually brought on a partner in one of the businesses who is very skilled in AI to help me deliver that as well. So that's been probably my focus over the last few weeks and it's been really exciting to actually do real deep work again and really like focus and drill down because you get a real big achievement for when you actually dial in and you can come from that state of consciousness to really just operate at that higher calibration of work and deliver world class, deliver world class product. It is a really great feeling. So that only came because I managed to delegate. So delegation for you as business owners is key as well. So making sure you can I talk about it, you free up your time so you can focus on that high value work. So I wouldn't have been able to do that and get things built in a few weeks if I didn't have a big team, not necessarily a big team, a great team that's lean and agile, that can do a lot of the other tasks. So you need to stop doing your 50, $100 an hour tasks. If you want to make plus of a thousand dollars an hour in your business, you need to make sure that you're focused on just that 80, 20 Pareto law. So 80% of your focus should come from the top tasks, like the top 20% of tasks. So delegation is key. So remote Assistance is one of our businesses that we help entrepreneurs scale by installing a remote assistant. Whether it's a personal assistant, a marketing assistant or it could operations integrative assistant that actually helps you implement AI into your business to streamline the systems. These things are very important because then you once you've got systems in your business, you document those tasks and you get these things done without you, which is key. That brings me on the role of meditation, exercise and energy management. So meditation really improves my focus and I've noticed that over the last, I think I've been meditating for over 11 years now, maybe 12 years I think. And it definitely increases that clarity. And that mix with the acupuncture for sure has really, really helped. Even if you can just sit for 20 minutes a day, you should be able to do that. It's very important because that 20 minutes will buy you back at least an extra two hours of high level productivity in your day. So making sure you do that daily movement is key. So I've been getting in to do walks twice a day now. So obviously I work out in the gym. But actually getting steps in has been really key for me because I'm in Dubai at the minute. Obviously it's perfect weather for that. But if not an uphill treadmill has worked really well as well when I'm traveling. So doing like 30 to 40 minutes uphill on a treadmill has really helped. Again the blood flow move help me sleep better as well. And that's been one of the key things that's really helped and that brings me on to focusing on that one thing. So I mentioned at the start of the video about how focusing on one thing moves a needle. So when I' focus on my one main project over the last few weeks of building out our AI solution that has like really helped me move the needle because I've then created a multi million pound new product that's going to generate a lot more business and revenue for my businesses and the ecosystem and the team. And that like I could only do that if I didn't have too much on my task list or to do list or in my calendar. And I've got a lot of friends that show me their calendars and it honestly makes me anxious when it's all lit up like a Christmas tree. Like so many different meetings, huddles one on one calls. Like I only operate when I know I've got as blank enough calendar as possible so I don't overload my day. So I'm always look to just get one to three key tasks done per day and that helps me dial in on the focus of what it is that I really need to focus on. So you just need to ask yourself if this was the one thing I did, would it make the biggest impact that comes from the book Gary Keller actually, the one thing you don't really need to read the full book because it pretty much describes exactly what the solution is on the title. But making sure that you just eliminate a lot of these distractions, eliminate certain meetings as well in the day. Not checking slack all of the time. So again I deleted off my phone slack. So I only check that when I'm on my computer. So that leaves me with the Productivity is about energy management. So it's not just about time management. You will get more done if you come from a higher state of vibrancy and energy. So working on that is going to be key. And success comes from consistent small improvements every single day, not overwhelming productivity tasks. So make sure you get away from the thing of I've achieved because I've ticked off all my to do list today. Make sure you just focus on that one thing.
So arrived at the golf course. You can see how beautiful it is. People always wonder what is it about golf but I honestly feel like just so tranquil and even I talked about meditation. Like you act, this is like a sort of form of meditation because you're in nature for four or five hours, you're just around greenery scenery, you're playing like a slow paced game of golf. And for those of you that play golf, you know that it is a frustrating sport but even if you just hit one good shot in your round, you will feel great again and that.
Will give you the bug to go.
Back and back in time again. And one thing I've loved about golf is you can play for many years. So I can see myself hopefully still playing when I'm 70, 80, 90 years old. And you can meet a lot of.
Good people at golf clubs.
So one of my first mentors I ever met back in Newcastle, I actually.
Met him on a golf course in Close House and he was he'd already.
Been worth over £100 million and travels the world and he just randomly joined our round of golf and then we built up a great friendship over probably the last three or four years where I still speak to him regularly and he gave me some great advice and that was when I was still more younger and really thirsty for knowledge. I probably just had his life the full round of golf about how he.
Got wealthy how he built his team.
How he manages his money, why he doesn't live in the UK anymore, what.
His tax structures were like. It was just all sorts of questions.
I think I was, I was asking him. And yeah, he took a liking to.
Me in terms of like he's seen.
Maybe a younger version of him. And he was one of my first mentors that I had and I actually found him again on a golf course. And I've since then played rounds with many success, other successful entrepreneurs. And yeah, it's a great way to network, but one of the great things is, like I said, you just get out in nature. Obviously we're blessed with the great weather here in Dubai, so I probably won't be getting the same type of weather when I get back to the uk.
Of course not.
And everything's always going to be a trade off in life. But yeah, I'm coming to the golf course and playing some nice golf is always a nice thing to do on a Monday.
One of your favorite cars, huh? Is this one of your favorite cars?
Yeah. Nice for here for sure. See, it's the best daily. I don't think there's a better daily.
But you wouldn't take that mod ball. No.
This is John, by the way. Haven't introduced you.
This is the person that he basically steals money off when he plays golf.
No, you're abandoned.
This guy plays every single day.
Every day, five times a week.
That's good.
Yeah, that's cool.
That's good, that's cool.
That's a Cobra.
Yeah, yeah, that's good.
But we're going to play again for money today, which golf is not fun without me.
I'm not playing for money because I'm not giving you 13 shots. 10 shots.
12.
12 is fair.
No, it's not fair.
My handicap is 17, yours is 5.
Your handicap is like.
Yeah, well, we'll see. I think we'll agree 12. No, and then 10.
That's it.
I'll do 11 for a thousand.
11. Okay. 11 for a thousand.
Yeah, 10,000 for 10,000. Second hole.
He'll get a part and he'll be like, I want to bet ten thousand.
A thousand. We're. There we go. Yeah, just Durham, by the way. We're not playing for crazy money. Okay, we'll see what happens. So just finished the round of golf and who won?
John.
John managed to rob me because he is a bandit and he plays off a false handicap. Now. You played well.
Anyone watching this? You don't realize how competitive this guy is until you play play golf against him. He is. He is by far. Look, I play golf with everyone else and I pay for, like, 100 quid and I don't even ask for it. But when I beat him, I want me.
He wants it straight away. Well done, John.
You played well.
Good game.
All right, Cool.
Good game, bro.
