In this segment of his free Ableton Live 12 music production class, J. Anthony Allen demonstrates how to use several new MIDI workflow features in Ableton Live 12. He records multiple takes of a MIDI loop, shows how the takes appear as separate take lanes even after deleting the original clip, and explains how to assemble a composite take by selecting the best parts from each lane. Allen then introduces the Capture feature, which automatically surfaces recent MIDI activity for quick retrieval, and the Automation Record mode, which records controller movements (knobs, sliders, etc.) without note data. Throughout, he adopts a conversational, instructional tone, encouraging viewers to experiment with these tools while briefly previewing a track he’s been working on.
