Let's Make a Track: Should We Add Strings?

J. Anthony Allen shifts a track from P-log scale to C minor, then layers in strings with extended chords like G, B♭, and D♭. The result feels dark and creepy, exactly what he's going for, so he plans to add a dedicated bass part next.

Okay, so in the. In between videos there, in that weird moment of time that happens between videos, I tightened this up a little bit. What I did is I got us out of that P log scale and just switched us over to C minor. A little easier to deal with, a little more in my. My home turf. So I adjusted some of the notes just to be in the new scale and not in the old scale. And then I shifted the direction of some of them just a little bit. So got it sounding much better now. Okay, now I'm gonna try an experiment here. You might be thinking, what is this? What is this thing? Is this a melody? Is this a harmony? Is this. What is it? Could be any of that. I'm just kind of experimenting with the chords here. The feel. It certainly has the makings of the start of an interesting melody. But I'm going to see if I can use it as a supporting line. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to throw it in the strings. So I already have a strings sample library loaded up on my default session. I'm going to throw this up in there and let's solo that and just hear what we've got. Okay. That sounds rather pretty, but I can make it sound better. Let's get some bleed going here. This will be super dissonant. A little too much. So let's take. We have here a C minor chord. Let's put a G over this whole thing. And then let's put maybe a B flat over this whole thing or part of it. Let's try that. Yeah. Then that leads nicely into this, which will let B nice and dissonant. And then we will do this. I'm just trying to add some notes to kind of thicken things up a little bit. Okay. That is sad. Wow. Okay, let's thicken it up a little bit more. So we have a C minor chord here. We have E flag. So I could toss a C on there or down there, Let that D sustain the whole way. And then this needs something else. Go F. And then G, maybe D flat. Okay. I think we may have lost track of our bass line here, though. We might be clashing with our bass line. So let's hear the whole thing. Cool. I like it dark. Dark and creepy, but that's kind of what I was going for. So, yeah, I'm into it. Let's add a bass line.
