Ultimate Ableton Live 10, Part 3: Editing & Producing

Jay walks through Ableton Live 10's editing and producing tools: building tracks in Session and Arrangement views, automation, clip editing, time-signature changes, beat-making with MIDI and audio chopping, side-chaining, bussing, resampling, and macros. J. Anthony Allen shows how to add chord progressions and explains when to use macros instead of direct control.

Hi, my name is Jay and welcome to Slam Academy.
This is Slam Academy. We're a diverse family of working musicians with one important common bond. A deep love for the creative process of making music.
I hate every preset I've ever listened to. I just want to like make all my own sounds. You have to have your own sound, otherwise you're not going to stick out.
United by our passion for creating, the Slam Family exists to educate and support musicians of any age, any level and in any genre.
Had been more to creating electronic music. Once I stepped into sound design, I was like, this is electronic music. This is like what I envisioned it being like.
Our community lives on and offline with live streamed group classes as well as in person programs in Minneapolis. Our instructors meet you where you are and work to accelerate your musical journey to where you want to be.
It was like frustrating in college being with all the music majors. You know, you had all these classical musicians and I'm like over here making beats. And I come here and I feel like these last nine months I've learned more, way more for what I need to be doing.
With detailed courses in DJing, music production, recording, sound design and more, Slam Academy is ready to show you what it takes to be an industry professional.
I was pleasantly surprised with how much I really could take away. After only 12 sessions, I finished up and I am walking out with exactly the tools that I need to finish projects.
We want you to become a part of the Slam Academy family.
We've made for you here the most comprehensive Ableton Live program we could imagine. It's designed to take you from novice to pro. It'll have project files, instrument downloads, special guests and a lot more. I've divided this class into six different sections so that you can focus on what you want to learn right away. However, to really take full advantage of the program, start at the beginning and go to the end. Or at least make sure you take all the sections at some point. This is class three, editing and producing. In this class we'll be focusing on building whole tracks with live in both the session view and arrangement view. We'll spend a lot of time on automation, Editing, moving and arranging clips, putting in time, signature and meter changes, creating, modifying and editing loops and making beats. We'll focus on couple of different ways that you can make beats in Ableton Live with its MIDI instruments or just chopping up audio or a couple other ways as well. Then we'll start to look at Ableton's built in synths that you can use. There's a lot of really powerful instruments in here. So we're going to dive in on how to use some of those to create really good sounds for your beats. And then we'll wrap up this section of the class with some advanced techniques including sidechaining, bussing and routing and resampling.
And again, once you're selected, even if you just have a part of it, you can copy paste.
Now I'm going to add a little
chord progression so something really simple and I'm going to do it by adding a new track.
So I'm going to go to. So why do you care?
Why, why not just move this or this instead of putting it on a macro? Well, here's there's two main reasons that come to mind right away. The first is because of I might want to do this. Okay, so here's our compressor. Now to get to the side chaining settings I hit this little arrow right?
It.
