In this talk, the speaker argues that pervasive negative media and hype‑driven investment promoters create a massive opportunity cost by discouraging people from taking action. While regulators like the FTC can shut down fraudulent promoters, many purveyors of negativity remain unchecked, leading to lost opportunities. The speaker explains that this bias stems from an evolutionary adaptation: for most of human history our minds were tuned to detect threats in a world of scarcity. Since the Industrial Revolution, however, we now live in relative abundance, but our brains have not yet reconditioned to this new reality, so we continue to over‑react to negative information.
