David Sacks breaks down the ideal team structure for a 50-person tech startup: engineers split across front-end, back-end, mobile, platform, analytics, and DevOps; one or two product managers; a couple of designers; and a head of sales managing roughly a dozen reps. The ratios keep teams lean and aligned as you grow.

CTO, you're gonna have some front-end engineers, some back-end engineers working on the website. You're gonna have some, a couple of mobile engineers doing the client applications. You're gonna have, you know, at least one engineer doing core services or platforms. This is kind of APIs. You'll probably have at this stage by about 50 employees, you're gonna have an engineer working on analytics and also DevOps and your infrastructure. Head of product, you'll have one or two PMs. Like, like I mentioned before, you want to have, you know, one PM for every 5 to 10 developers, and you're going to have, by this point, by about a 50-person org, you're going to have a couple of designers. And again, that same sort of ratio, in that 5 to 10 developer range, you're going to need a designer. Then we move over to sales and marketing. You're going to want to have a head of sales. By this point, you're going to have about a dozen people in your sales organization.
