WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg explains how he stayed motivated for 20 years: pick a mission big enough to matter. He's been working toward democratizing publishing since 2003, and that purpose has carried him through.
You've been doing— but what's more interesting than that is you've been doing this 20 years, going back to the very beginning of the first code, right? 20 years. Any insights in how to motivate yourself for half your life to do one mission?
Oh, wow. I think you just got to pick a big mission. We started in 2003 to democratize publishing.
Yeah.
And so that was broad enough that we've been able to stay at that. And, and expanded and it's evolved over time, of course, like what it means to publish has evolved over time. But yeah, it's, it's pretty exciting to have that sort of North Star that you can go towards.
