Jason M. Lemkin says the best B2B companies embed their head of product directly in sales. He points to a $60 million ARR company where the product leader attended a board meeting with the largest prospect, ensuring the roadmap matched what customers actually needed.
I want to shift directions a little bit and talk about product and sales. A lot of listeners of this podcast are product managers or founders building products. How involved should product managers be in sales and vice versa? How involved should sales be in the roadmap and what's being built?
I think in the best run B2B organizations that I've worked with in my own as well. The great, at least the head of product, the VP of products are deeply involved in sales, deeply involved in sales, deeply involved in sales. Um, I, a company I invested in that's just crossing $60 million. They just had a meeting with who will be their largest customer. Okay. And the head of product was there, is at the board meeting, is like, thank God I was there because what they want to do with our product, we sorted it.
