Trend #9 - Communication - a key to business breakthrough success

Jason S. Bradshaw argues communication is foundational to business success but most companies make two mistakes: treating it as one-way and sending only one message. He recommends frequent follow-ups with added value and checking for understanding in conversations.

Welcome to another live edition of Talking Points with me, your host, Jason S. Bradshaw. Of course. This is the daily live edition of my fortnightly newsletter, Talking Points with Jason. Now you can sign up to the newsletter on LinkedIn or on my website at Jason S. Bradshaw.com over the last 10 days we've been going through one of the Trends from the 2024 Trends for Business Breakthrough Success report. You can download that report free of charge@jason sbradshaw.com trends and in that report you'll see there are 15 trends that I predict will be the determining factor in those businesses, regardless of their size, that have breakthrough business success in 2024. Now, I know 15 sounds like a lot, and I don't expect that the businesses that do have that breakthrough success in 24 will be knocking it out of the ballpark, so to speak, on all 15 trends. I'm hopeful that many of you are already doing a number of the trends. The report goes into that regardless of where your business is at, you should probably focus on two to three trends that represent the greatest opportunity for growth in your organization. Now I can assist you with that, of course, but it all starts with you downloading the free report@jason sbradshaw.com Trends now, today's trend is actually trend number 11. I'm not sure why I called it trend number nine in the title, but it is actually trend number 11. And it is communication. And communication is the cornerstone of success in any business from both a customer and an employee experience point of view. I was speaking to an excellent audience earlier in the week in the automotive sector and I shared with them that communication while is it important? There's two things that we often get wrong. The first is that we often forget communication is a two way street. So if I'm telling you something and we're in an environment where there's two way dialogue, I need to ensure that you've heard me correctly, that you've understood what I am telling you. Because if I tell you something and you don't understand it, or you misinterpret it, or you don't fully gather it, then I haven't communicated. I've just said some words. So it's important that when we're communicating in a two way dialogue sense that we check for understanding that both parties are on the same page, if you will. Now the other trap that we often fall into with communication is thinking that we've communicated enough. Now this applies in sales, it applies in customer service. It applies with our employees. Quite often we will send an email or some other form of communication in a one and done type format. You know we've sent it once, they're going to have received the email, they're going to receive the information and my job here is done. The challenge with that is what you and I live with every day. I'm sure that there are emails that you miss in the moment. I'm sure there's text messages or other messages that you miss in the moment. I'm sure that you just get busy and you forget. So those organizations that want breakthrough success in 2024, they understand that you have to communicate often with their customers and with their employees more than what necessarily feels right. So if you are sending one email to your customer, confirm an order. Now moving that to two and adding value in that second email will absolutely improve things for you. And this is the thing, when you communicate more, you have less issues because people understand. People know where they're at and they don't need to contact you to ask inquiries about stuff that you could have just automated and told them already. So trend number 11, not 9. Trend number 9 actually was diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, which communication is important of as well. But trend number 11, communication. Be sure to focus with intentionality on communication. If you look at all of your customer journeys, if you look at all your employees journey, I'm sure that you will have delivered them in a way that you feel like you're communicating enough. I challenge you to have a look at where you could add some communication. Not to spam, but to reinforce the message, to ensure the communication has occurred and to continue to deliver value and build a relationship with your audience, whether it be your customers or your employees. Now spaces are filling up in the breakthrough coaching program. It's a 12 week intensive accelera growth accelerator. And I work one on one with you over that 12 week period. A combination of virtual one to one meetings and group work, as well as email access to me and I only work with 50 people at once. Now, applications work will stay open even when that 50 is full. But you'll go on a waiting list to join the next cohort of individuals going through the program. So there are still some spaces left. It's an application process which means that you need to spend three to five minutes answering a couple of questions just to make sure that we're a good fit for each other and that I can help accelerate your growth in 2024. So, business breakthroughcoaching.net, you'll learn a little bit more about the program and what's included, you'll have that application. Step there. And then, assuming we're a good match, my team will set up that onboarding call with you. And I look forward to speaking to you soon. Until the next time we speak, I wish you and your teams much success. I'm Jason S. Bradshaw.
