And it is annoying in some respects, if I'm honest, that in 2024 we still have to have this conversation. But unfortunately, many businesses are still deciding to polarize their customers, make it difficult for their customers and perhaps even turn off customers by not being accessible to them. Now what I mean by this is last year, for example, I consulted with a business that had no way for a customer to call them to place an order or to get support. They did have an email channel, they did have a social media channel. But then in social media it was not necessarily everywhere where they wanted. And unfortunately, this particular business was selling products where at times customers needed immediate assistance, not delayed assistance. And they had a wide range of customers from 18 year olds through to 70, 80 year olds. Now my point with that business was that you're just not there where your customers are hanging out. You're not where your customers want to have conversations with you. And so they made some changes to that to become more accessible for their customers. My belief is very simple. It's about being on the right channel or channels to meet your audience. Now that does not mean you have to be on every channel. And by channel I mean things like telephone, email, even fax, potentially Twitter, Instagram or the different social media networks, web chat. You understand right how a customer can engage with you. So I don't believe that you should be in every channel or on every channel. The trend specifically is called the right channel. Be on the right channels for your customers. So what does that mean? Well, it means that you hang out where your customers hang out. You operate the way that your customers operate in in the communication sense, that is. So if you know that your customers hang out on Facebook, then you make Facebook one of the ways that customers can engage with you. If you know that your customers have a preference for telephone conversations, well then you create that ability for customers. If you know your customers have a preference for learning information on Instagram but or being inspired on Instagram but they want their customer service to go through email, then you are in both locations. It starts by understanding where your ideal customer hangs out and how they prefer to learn, explore and do business with your organization. You then choose the right channels that match those requirements for the majority of your customers and you go all in making sure that it is easy and seamless for your customers to connect with you on any of those channels. And when I say seamless, a conversation that starts on without the customer needing to repeat their problem. A customer should also equally be able to start a conversation on the telephone and then move it to email or to another platform if that is the next best logical step for you and the customer. It should be seamless. So right channel, right channels hanging out, being accessible where your ideal customers are and being seamless across each of the platforms. That is trend number seven.
