Most entrepreneurs are crippling their teams or stunting the growth of their teams. The reason is that the entrepreneur feels like they have to be present, the one steering the business, the one doing the work. And the best way to firstly gauge the strength of your team and more importantly to enable them to grow, is to get away from the business. Take a sabbatical. I took a six week sabbatical. One of the best things I've ever done, the measure of the strength of your team is when they know they can't get in touch with you. There's no connecting with you. So whatever problems come up, whatever opportunities come up, they have to be the ones to confront them and to resolve them. There's no better feeling than coming back from that and seeing the growth in your team. And so let go, for God's sakes. Give your people a chance to grow. And if they hit the guardrails, if they fall down, if they make mistakes, that's where the best learning is. And so let go. Give your team a chance to grow and get the hell out of their way.
